What is it?

I have been catching these small sucker or chub like fish this year for the first time and dont know what species it is. They seem to like small artificials ,wormpieces and mealworms though. They came out of a small New Jersey brook and hang out with suckers ,chubs and stocked Trout.Any one know what it is?May 92 RB.jpg

Small River Fishing

I just got off the Wolf River, a small 75-yard wide stretch of river that runs through the center of Wisconsin at Freemont. The river is broken up by lakes and in the Spring, massive schools of white bass and large groups of walleye migrate between the lakes via the river.

We usually go up here every year about the time that the lilacs bloom in hopes of getting in the "bite" when these fish eat everything and anything in sight. This is my second year and I am starting to…

A Must for the Bluegill Fisherman

Guys this little item is a must if you are fishing larger ponds and small lakes. I am talking about my Pelican Raider 8 ft. pontoon boat. Two individuals’ can fish comfortable with room for your tackle. The seats can slide forward and backward depending on how much leg room one needs. I decided to add an anchor in case I am in…

wrong Fish But Fun

went out for some gills friday and decided to take some minnows just in case. Caught 2 small gills and 40 crappie. . Everywhere you looked, crappie were chasing minnows. Used chartruse jig tipped with minnow, They liked it better with no sinker. Out of the forty, thirty eight were females with eggs.Where were the males? Dreaming of spawing is all I can think of.Looking for comments

Question About Fishing Fertilize Lakes & How it affect Bluegill Hits

I just got back from fishing one of favorite lakes today. What I found out after I got on the water is that it had just been fertilized. I for one don’t like to fish fertilize lakes because I feel it affects the way the fish feed. What are your feelings on fishing fertilized lakes and how and what do you guys use…

New "Old" place to catch gills and crappie

About 30 minutes from me in Columbus, Georgia, there's a ritzy family resort called Callaway Gardens. The resort has a main lake of around 120 acres. It's a fee based lake where one can rent a boat and trolling motor for $35.00 for a half day's fishing. An angler may take 7 bluegill well over 1 1/2 pounds, 7 bass, and all of the crappie he can tote! I talked with the fisheries biologist, and he said that the gill limit is low (at one time an angler could take home 15 gills), but due to the…

A Big Dose of Gill Mania

Tuesday's fishing trip was one of those days when you say to yourself could it get any better. After arriving at the lake around 1:30 I proceeded to get all my gear and little Raider boat out of the truck and head to some of the out of

way fishing holes on our lake. As usual I was joined by a slue of other boats.

Then there was the endless groups of bank fisherman with their reels all

positioned on various places on the banks. So I was fortunate to be in good

company…

Photos

Hey Bruce, I'll add some photos as time goes on. I like to wait until I have enough pics and then have them all put on a disk so I'll have a hard copy in case the computer crashes. I learned that the hard way last year and lost everything. Again, thanks for the encouragement. Nick.

20 fillets!!

Went to the hospital lake for an hour or so and came home with 10 nice gills 1/2 to 3/4 pounds. Took your advice Bruce, and tightlined wigglers on the bottom. (Don't know why I ever stopped using live bait). Looks like the wife and I are having us a nice fish fry tomorrow. Pictures will be coming later. Nick.
