Catfish on the Fly

Guys, I landed this catfish in April of this year using my 7 1/2 ft. 3 wt. fly rod. I have only landed two catfish in my fly fishing life, and this one was the largest. It took me 15 minutes to land the fish!!See More

Bass Raider 10 ft. Fishing Boat

I thought I would share with you guys an image of my 10 ft. Pelican pontoon style boat, which is perfect to fish small waters. I posted a few images of my 8 ft. Pelican boat here on Big Bluegill some years ago, which I sold in 2014. At that time I decided to purchase a bigger boat in the same style which is the…

A Must for the Bluegill Fisherman

Guys this little item is a must if you are fishing larger ponds and small lakes. I am talking about my Pelican Raider 8 ft. pontoon boat. Two individuals’ can fish comfortable with room for your tackle. The seats can slide forward and backward depending on how much leg room one needs. I decided to add an anchor in case I am in…

Question About Fishing Fertilize Lakes & How it affect Bluegill Hits

I just got back from fishing one of favorite lakes today. What I found out after I got on the water is that it had just been fertilized. I for one don’t like to fish fertilize lakes because I feel it affects the way the fish feed. What are your feelings on fishing fertilized lakes and how and what do you guys use…

Thanks Bill, I am definately looking at doing just that. right now i rent a boat at the public boat ramp for something like 30$ and ya have to rnt the troll motor and battery too. It is very hot here in VA right now and bleugill fishing is OK, but I can't catch a crappie to save my life.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been chasing bass and catfish for awhile, but panfish and big bluegills are calling me once again. Gotta love pie plate sized gills for the fight.

yep and thanks for asking the question lol glad to help

yea I agree with you but I realy dont understand why he would be fertilizing that often. but if he just let it clear up he will find that the fish will probably be feeding more agressivly because of the lack of the ability to feed when the water is constantly that greenish tent to it. if he was to stop fertilizing for awhile to see how the fish react I think that he will have a different outlook on fertilizing so often. you know?

I think that lakes or ponds that are fertilized are better because you know that proviedes the blankton with food which turns the water to a greenish color in tent but it makes the fish grow faster and become bigger and weigh more than what they would in a natural lake, pond, or resivoir. but the reason I say this is because I have caught my biggest bluegill and crappie in a fertilized pond. so yea its a good route to take. what do you think on this subject matter?

Hi Bill,
Welcome to a great bluegill site. I'm down Enterprise way and am glad to have more from the deep south onboard. I fish small water on a BassBaby molded pontoon boat. Like your Raider, fits in the truck bed. Post a picture of your Raider when you can. Like to see it.
