My grand kids caught a lot of bream on mini marshmellows and corn kernels. Small chunks of Ivory soap, which are high in animal products like Zote soap, should work too. HAve I tried it? No, crickets, Beetle Spins and worms are too readily available. Will I? If it works, y'all will be the 1st to know.

Go to a "Mexican/Latino" market and look for ZOTE soap, pink is best. Try to insure it is fresh so it will cut into small pieces easily. (Got some once that was old and dry and it only crimbled when cut. Fresh soap will cut like cold butter) ZOTE is 66% animal product and catfish love it. Little cubes should work fine for bream and other panfish.

I love River Monsters! Saw the episode about snakeheads in the U.S the other day. My wife (who is from Asia), watched some of it and commented on which species of snakehead taste the best (verdict: bullseye and giant aren't as good as the other ones). Having eating snakehead myself, I do agree with her that they're tasty. Snakehead are a popular food fish in Asia, and it sure sounds like we need to get to work catching them. They could easily displace every top of foodchain predator fish in waters they invade, probably even muskies.

Had a boss from New Orleans, swore by fishing with P and G Soap. Was wondering where he could get some. Found a bar of it in an antique shop. He said the catfish loved it.

I do know an old trick for killing a spot is to drop a bar of soap in that spot for tournaments. The cleaning agent will irritate those fish is my bet. You might as well put on a fake bait made of plastic or metal if you are going to do that.
Who knows maybe there will be a new Dove PowerBait...

There ARE soaps made of fat and probably lye. Those might work, but then you might be causing soapy water, which isn't nice.

catfish are meat eaters and some are not and no soaps have a bad smell and that is what catfish are looking for
