Thanks to Big Bluegill member and friend Bob Lusk there are some pictures beginning to filter in of massive tanker bluegills from Richmond Mill!
Here's a couple more. Folks, these are some true behemoths.
Here's Dr. Jim Morgan with a 1-12 bluegill. This fish is very young, with tremendous upside potential.

Hi All -
I've been looking forward to BG Spawning coming up, and I got to wondering where they were already spawning. Realizing its already probably to late in some areas - I thought it would be neat if other posters could chime in with dates they first notice Active Breeding of Bluegill and the general location in the country.
Still probably 3-4 weeks away for me - Who has active, spawing BG right now?

Another great fishing trip stop by a backwater in Alburg this evening because I thought there should have been Seeds there. I Did not catch a seed but I did catch a few perch 2 bullheads and a Northren. I caught that northren with a 41/2 foot ST Croix ultra light rod with 4 pound test line. I still think this area should house some seeds , This fish went after a pearch that Iwas reeling in . I did not have a landing net with…

Well, if you don't already know, the East Coast and Mid Atlantic states have had record high temperatures the past 4 days with many areas seeing hot, low 90's F which has shot the water temps well into the low 70's. As a result, in many small ponds and lakes the bluegills have actually gone on bed and the fishing has been big time!
I have kept records over the years and in most seasons, Mason Dixon area lakes will see gills spawn some where around the last week of May to the first…

This was a weekend that makes one say wow its great to be alive. My wife and I went touring for yard sales and new spots for weekend fishing-camping trips. The second yard sale we hit was selling a cortland 7 1/2 foot fly rod, reel, and line. Now I already have 2 flyrods I have not even used, yet tell me who could resist another one for 20.00$. I now have 3.
Next stop was a state park my wife and I want to stay at later this summer.
It has a great looking lake with poor acess. Can not…

I and the wife took a trip into south Iowa in search of some new Bluegill waters. We were carefull to stay on track and not get hung up on a single good lake for the entire trip, but keep moving. The second lake we checked out turned out to be the best of the trip, and we plan to return at some point. We also found some…

I have never fished for trout I'm going this weekend. Does anyone have suggestions on what is the best method to catch a few. Powerbaits, redworms, rooster tails or flies. I just wondered if anyone had been there and had some suggestions for a first timer.

It was a cloudy warm spring day In North Carolina. My wife and I were on our way to Lookout Shoals lake where our friends had recently bought a lot. We were invited to just relax and enjoy the beautifull flowering trees that were speckled on the hill side and reached over the lake.
"What did ya bring your fishin' stuff for," my friends wife had asked me in her wonderful Texas twang.
"You didn't think I would come to just lounge on the shore when there's some water I could be fishing…

I took my son fishing last night, while my daughter was at choir practice.
He's been actually WANTING to fish lately! Hooray!
So, I rigged up his ultralight with a tiny lead-head fly I had tied up, and put it about 1.5'-2.0' under a bobber. After just a few clumsy casts, he started really chucking it out there FAR. But actually his clumsy casts caught all his fish. On cast #1, he caught a 9" Hybrid Sunfish!! 2nd cast...a decent bluegill (for that pond), and then…

I just returned from a two day fishing trip at the Detroit River, just south of Detroit, where big Lake Erie walleye move through and spawn each year. This year the weather as always was more winterlike than springlike. The night before we got there it rained buckets and cooled down overnight. It turned from rain to a heavy slushy snow. We were fortunate to have a good boat cover and only about 1-2 inches of snow. The next morning we launched the boat on a slush covered ramp and fished in 25…

I looked to the west while I was fishing for bluegill tonight, and I'd swear that there were two sunsets!
This fire was absolutely raging! It was multiple lines of flames, many of them 20 feet high. There were multiple lines, some of them were 500+ yards long. I counted 150 vehicles on the surrounding road.

Hi everyone. We have a perment camper on a Northcentral Wisconsin lake. The lake is about 950 acres, 15' max depth with an average about 7' deep. It holds a few muskies, pike, walleyes, bass, crappies, and a ton of small bluegill. There is a lot of flooded timber also. You can catch crappies and bluegills all day, but crappies only run to 9" and bluegills about 5" to 7". I would pass on these smaller fish if you would catch a few bigger ones every once in a while, but you just don't here. Whats…

I am just starting to fish again after a 15 year absent. Started tying some jigs this past winter and I cannot wait for the ice to leave to use them. I did get on the ice sevral times this winter. In This area, perch is mostlly what is caught through the ice. I was hoping to catch my first pumpin seed through the ice this year but that did not happen. Maybe next year.
4-1-2009 The ice has moved in the lake far enough from shore so maybe tomorrel I can get in some fishing time . The…

I finally got a chance to get out of work and the house last weekend. My daughter wanted to go to a local Church camp, but I talked her into going to the Sportman's club that also has a lake. Maybe we should have went to the camp for a picnic and fishing!
It was a nice warm Saturday down here in St Clair County, but the wind was picking up and a storm front was on it's way in. I should have known, not a good day to fish, but hey, I really needed to practice my casting and so did my…

Well, it was a pretty hard winter in Ohio on the shore of Lake Erie. So far I have counted 35 9 inch bluegills that I planted in my garden due to freeze kill. There is probably twice that number as the crawdads eat them up when they sink. One thing that caused it was my areator shut down from a power outage and didn't restart. Alas, but I was in Chicago working and when I came home the pond was a solid chunk of ice. Sooo, I get to start over again. I intend to dredge the pond this summer to get…

It's warming up, but I haven't had a chance to get out and really fish yet. In a couple weeks I'm heading to the Detroit River for a shot at some big walleyes. Until then I hope to make a quick run to a pond or creek to wet a line. The crappie are starting to wake up from what I hear, and hopefully the sunnies and gills will not be far behind.
