Kentucky lake first timer

Hey guys,

I will be heading out to Kentucky lake the first week in May.We will be staying on the Northern part of the lake. Any info anyone has will help out with the trip.

For the past 7 years we have been going to Reelfoot lake in TN.,decided to try something different this year.Seems to us the fishing has slowed a lot over the 7 years we have been going there.

I do a lot of fishing for gills in South Eastern ,WI.It is always nice to get in a trip or 2 a year to see… Continue

Birchwood WI

Hi all,
I have seen ads that tout Birchwood WI as the "Bluegill Capital of the World" ! !
Any truth to that? I am thinking about maybe taking my bride up there this summer for a few days. Would sure like to hear about where to stay and which lake is real good! OR, tell me about any other bluegill "hotspots" that are in the midwest... Thanks..... John

Deep Creek Lake Jumbos

Well, I finally got to do a little ice fishing for some big yellow perch out in western Maryland at Deep Creek Lake. I stayed with my friend Ron and we fished 2 1/2 days on the lake and were joined the last half-day with our buddy Dan. I wish I could tell you that we murdered them, but the truth is that we worked very hard for a total of 58 yellow perch and one walleye during that time frame.

As of Jan 1, 2010, the Maryland DNR has imposed a 10 perch daily limit… Continue

Need a new fishing spot

Due to new fishing regulations in Canada, we are looking for a new lake for our yearly fishing trip in June. We are use to smaller lakes, 2000 acres and under that provides good bluegill fishing. We would like to visit Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri or Arkansas. Can anyone offer recommendations for lake and possibly cabin rentals.

U.S. popularity in the last year for Big Bluegill!!!

In order of visits, by state...

The second number is average pages/visit

The third number is average time spend on BBG

Followed by % new visits

Followed finally by percent of people who immediately jump off of site

For what it's worth, the average time spent on this site (7-10 minutes) is OFF THE CHARTS for a site like this. That's really cool.

1. Illinois 12,116 8.69 00:07:04 44.51% 27.14%

2. Nebraska 11,346 7.71 00:10:53 18.29%… Continue

Fishing the Hot Water

Hey y'all, got to fish the warmwater discharge at Brunner Island today on the Susquehanna River in PA. Good wading conditions, low water, clear, but tough fishing. Cold this early AM- 12 F with some wind.

Ran into one guy who got 6 smallmouths from 13 to 17 inches on 1/8 th oz jigs. I got my first fish of the year...a 18 inch channel cat on a Zoom Fat Albert on a 3/16 th oz jig. Also got yet another cat on the jig and a nice 16 inch smallie on the same. Missed about 6 or 8 strikes.… Continue

Big Ice Gills

I spent the afternoon with a good buddy on a farm pond that is open to the public. This specific pond is chock full of big shouldered bluegills. The color of the gills in this chain of farm ponds is plain awesome, they tend to put up a good fight too.

In the couple hours we were there we iced about 20-25 gills a piece. Most in the 8-9" range, along with some smaller ones.

Most fish were coming from green tear drops tipped with a wax worm, most fish took the jig just after… Continue

amused but then again humbled

I went fishing saturday with some family members, and we had a blast. I decided to bring my UL's with me so I can test them out and break them in. it was a good dicision because although I didnt catch much, my UL's did the job of pulling in 1 shellcracker (redear sunfish) and 2 Bluegill but only one bluegill was big enough to keep. well all and all, it was a good but slow day of fishing but from my perspective it was still fun and humbling at the same time I geuss.

Keep Fishing. Keep… Continue

no blue gills

i have a 2.5 acre farm pond last year we could see all kinds of blue gills along the edge but this year never seen one or caught one, just crappies. i killed this pond off 4.5 years ago and restocked per DNR recommendations. we have caught the full range of crappies from small to 12 inchers any input would be great. there is large mouth bass, catfish ,bluegill and 100 black crappieswhen i restocked it.

The rest of the ice fishing story

After we took the kids back inside to their mothers and their eventual naptimes, I headed back out with my mom and dad to try and figure out how to fill up a 5 gallon bucket full of them pesky little bluegills. The bluegill were hugging tight to the bottom (according to my good friend Vexilar) and werent moving around or interested in eating much. Typically when we… Continue

A Couple Ice Fishing Babes....

Literally. It wasnt but just a couple years ago and I was changing their diapers and rocking them to sleep. Now I am baiting their hooks, removing their fish, snapping tons of photos, and just having a great time fishing and exploring the outdoors with these gals! Yesterday we spent about an hour hiking down to the pond, drilling and scooping out numerous holes just for… Continue

fish identification

Could those of you lucky enough to catch fish, photograph them, and put online here, please identify what they are for those of us still ignorant? I'm still trying to guess the different types of BG, and am usually wrong the few times they are identified.

Thank you,
Sharon
