Waiting on the Fly tying kit!

Just wanted to inform everyone that fly ties on this site that I just order my fly tying kit. It was been shipped out and I should have on sept 4th. I'am excited to begin but the hardest part is the waiting part. When I tie my 1st fly I will post a picture.

New Aquarium Fish

Just put three fish in my 30 gallon aquarium (after giving away the one giant goldfish I was keeping in there.) They are a 7.5" pumpkinseed, 7" bluegill, and 6.5" bluegill. (Somebody cancelled on our fish fry so three of the littlest ones got lucky.) I have renovated the tank by putting in a new big filter, I check and adjust the PH very frequently, remove toxins such as ammonia and chlorine, and feed them redworms from my worm farm. I am adding a heavy duty air pump as soon as I can get one…

My wife's first fly fishing outing....

Well here we go off on  our grand adventure to a small local lake.

the adventure being my wife and her "new" vintage fly rod/reel.

I had planned to begin teaching her basic casting in the back yard but NOOOOOOOOO....... She wants to dive right in.

She says she's watched me do it for years and believes she already knows what to do.

  I'm suddenly very afraid.....

An angler's odyssey.....

The area I'm hitting in the morning is where the Hoosier state record BG came from back in 1972. In addition, I received an email last week from a fisheries biologist who told me of a 2 lb. gill that came from there just a few weeks ago. Supposed to be photos available at a local baitshop, I will see what I can find out.

Souped up slip bobbers... part 2..

Slide the tube back into the foam body and secure it with a drop of glue. I recommend  leaving about 3/4" of the tube sticking out of the top of the float body.

Now, take those metal flat washers, clamp em' in a vise, and use a hacksaw to cut through one side. Like thus:

Slide an appropriate amount of washers, ( I usually use 6-7), onto the plastic shaft, right…

Souped up slip bobbers...part 1

Okay, so maybe I usually call em' floats, not bobbers. Whichever you prefer, chances are there are a handful in your tackle box. Many of us cut our angling teeth drifting a worm below a float, and indeed that is surely a fine way to catch a Bluegill. I still reach for a float of some sort on many occasions, although these days I'm more more apt to suspend an artificial jig beneath it than I am a hapless garden worm.

But no matter the bait, the float still has to do it's part to put…

No Way !

Everyone has heard those stories about unbelievable productive fishing spots. Well, when I was told of a spot where you could catch huge bluegills right from the bank, I promptly said " No Way". I want to tell you about a secret spot in Alabama where I caught the biggest gills of my life. Let me tell you a little about fishing as I have known it for most of my life. Unable to swim, unable to afford a boat, unable to run in the circles that might allow me access to boat use. I have been…

New PB Rocky!

Back on the Blogs Forum. Been doing mostly saltwater fishing for the past 2 months. Not much panfish action in freshwater, but have caught a few largemouths, chain pickerel, and recently did a river smallmouth day. Here's a report for my recent panfish success.

After coming from the private lake that usually catches me those monster gills and not catching anything there, I went to a local city park that I'm familiar with and has the Pequonnock River running through…

new blog up with an article on raising big bluegill

Hi all.  I've started a blog for my bluegill guiding service on which I will also be posting articles on pond management, especially big bluegill, from time to time.  I just posted an article on common mistakes made by pond owners who want big bluegill.  Here's the URL:
