You’ll have to overlook my ignorance and no, I’m not too proud to admit it. Growing up; I always thought a bluegill was a bluegill and a shell cracker was a big ole bluegill. I had no idea there were…Continue

Midge flies for Gills 1 Reply

These flies are really Trout flies, but the gills will "inhale them". ( they can swallow them deep very easily ) I carry an "unhookem-tool" and usually need it. These flies are  easy to tie except…Continue

Tying the Pot-Luck sinking spider

This is a simple spider to tie, I will do a picture step x step rather than a video. I tied this one on a size 10 2x hook, in a gill favorite color "Olive". Keep it simple with tight wraps and I am…Continue

I went fishing today, and all I caught was a stupid catfish.

Just joined this group. Never noticed it in the past.

I don't come across the coppernose as much as I'd like but I get lucky once in a while. While fishing a private lake for the first time a while back I caught this one on a hunk of night crawler with no weight whatsoever. This was the only coppernose I got. The rest were your "run of the mill" bluegill.....nothing wrong with those just to be clear....

Does anybody here have a pond they are managing for CNB?  Looking for harvest rate information.  I stocked CNB because of the frequency of spawning and aggressiveness.  Stocked the pond last year and want to make sure I have nice big Carolina Coppers to catch for a long time to come.

I've read what's out there but the published harvest rates on fertilized ponds seem pretty extreme.  Wondering if anyone is actually taking that many fish out of their pond?  Clemson extension says 125 lbs/acre.  Virginia DGIF says 160 lbs!  I'm targeting 100 lbs/ac because I'm a conservative guy but that hardly seems conservative.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised Tooty......the Coppernose should give you some good runs......they cooperate very nicely on many artificial baits......We'll get on some for sure!

Ya know Jeffrey don't know why these things are so much different than northern strain , but definately are beautiful. Can't wait to give em a try on my baits......

I have found Coppernose shallow on several rivers this week and what a blast it has been....

Had a treat today down in South Carolina......With water temperatures in the mid to high 70s, the Coppernose gills are pushing shallow and very active.......These three fish were some of the best today and all were released back into Lake Moultrie to continue to grow and guard the baby gills.....South Carolina represents!
