hahahha-- maybe so leo;; never thought of that!  but whats a little buzz every now and then LOL!!!  ALSO-- if needed- you can run a wire thru the can; make a loop on each side; and run a pole thru the wire and set the can down into the water- helping to keep the hole from freezing !  if you make multi holes it could be worth it

Hm.. I can understand the alcohol wipes method for burning. But wouldn't the cooking oil be a better method, and less getting high in the shanty? Hehehehehe..

here's a tip for all of you ice fishermen-- a small coffee can- 1 roll of toilet paper- 1 bottle of flameable alcohol. put the t.paper in the can; pour the alcohol in- slowly-- use the whole bottle- it  will take a little while- the t. paper will absorb the alcohol. let it sit overnight- when you get to your ice fishing hole- light the top of the paper-- it will burn 6 to 8 hours!!  great little hand warmer!!

Some  McCormicks spice containers make good small split shot dispensers .If the holes aren't big enough I suppose you  can ream them out bigger with a nail or an awl but I have one I use for trout /panfish sized UL shot that  works perfect as is .

Upon reading again, I've used a similar rig for cat fishing. I'll clip a float above a three way swivel; one leg has the hook, the other leg runs to a weight.
Once the weight hits bottom, the float rises and holds the rig vertical.

I've seen them. They are usually used to keep the bait from tangling on the bottom. The rig stays in one place, because of the weight at the end but the float makes the rig rise straight up when retrieved.
Obviously, we're talking a slip float.
This "lifting" helps it clear tangles on the bottom. Usually the float is pretty big, to help with the lifting.

I don't know if it has a name, though.

I have here a new rig, I think. Its like a drop shot, but instead of fishing it from the bottom this rig is submerged from the top. Its hard to see, but like a bobber attached to the main line that goes to the hook, this is the bobber on the leader of your choice tied to the hook as well as the main line. The testing in my pool gave me not only a excellent drift rig, but a dancing action as well just like bouncing a jig off bottom. Has this rig already been invented?
