Just found this site. This is great! Love the Panfish and light tackle stuff. Looking forward to seeing all what's going on. Gives me incentive to get out there. Just bought a bunch of crappie jigs to add to the collection and a new Phenix Elixir 901-2 rod to start ot the new year.

Here's a nice 8.5 inch bluegill caught in 2013 by Bruce Condello using the new CLC product. The new Wild River series of tackle systems made my day more about fishing, and less about hauling.…

That's looking more like it:
Determine the length of the "stem" and insert it into the body:
Pressing a glass bead into the stem. I despise the plastic beads used on most slip floats, as the wear too easily and pinch my line.…

Since I'm unable to fish, I thought I would post a few photos showing what I'm up to with my floats. This first photo shows the materials I'm using: Cans of primer and topcoat, 3/16" rigid aquarium tubing, glass beads from the craft store, some 5/32" hardened drill rod used for a turning mandrel, 1" square balsa blocks, and some split, flat washers and O-rings, used for float weighting.…

With the success many of you have with crickets, either fished alone or tipped on a jig. I decided I needed a good cricket pattern for my fly box. I had tried in the past to tie a cricket pattern, but was never happy with the profile or proportions. I have a foam spider pattern that is easy to tie and I thought if I could add some shapely legs, a wing and some markings I could produce something that might pass for a cricket to a hungry gill. I little time at the vise produced…

A hook out tool can be easily made from an old ball point pen tube. Pull out the ink cartridge and insert a plastic arrow nock with a little glue if it does not fit snug. An old pen tube with an attached clip is the most convenient. A package of arrow nocks can be found in the hunting department. I selected the narrowest knocks I could find to better fit into smaller bluegill mouths. Once completed, push the knock down to the hook bend. Then with a little tension on the line you can usually…

Had some good luck on my return to Alabama. All the fish shown were consumed at a fry the same day.

This is a shallow water method, first told to me by our own beloved John Sheehan, of RINGWOOD, NJ. You may not know that John is a fine musician; you can hear him on ITUNES or see him on YouTube all day long. I encourage you to do so. But John is also an accomplished angler and he uses this plan for both bass and pickerel. Let John tell you how it works:
“Flutter spoons thin gauged spoons that come into play when a slow fall is the preferred presentation . This means they don't cast…

Got out for 30 minutes before work this morning, and I caught 5 HBG. All good fish, although the cold killed the batteries in my scale, so estimating weight between 1 lb for smaller fish, and around 22 ozs. for largest. Ice jig tipped with spikes, water has risen to 44 degrees, air temp was 30 degrees.…

I got to fish my favorite lake today. Last year thanksgiving week was all big gills, maybe a few redears in a day and a small bass every 20-30 fish. Today we got four different species in our first four fish. A big redear followed by a monster gill, a 14" crappie and a small bass. This theme continued for the rest of the day with 10 gills, 7 crappie (a bunch lost), 4 bass, and 3 redear, including a monster. Got some pictures and a great video of my dad catching a nice bass on an ultralight…

Thanks to many discussions with Walt through email and phone, I think the Male only approach is going to happen.
I plan to Rotenone the pond so that we can start clean. I will be stocking a ton of Grass Shrimp and Papershell crayfish. I will also be adding freshwater clams and probably two types of minnows.
I'll be purchasing an aerator and an automatic feeder to try and help everything out. Then come spring time, I will be fertilizing the pond as…

This season was one of changes. We moved, TWICE, in 2012. In the end I saw a lot of countryside, had some false starts and ended up broke, but happy enough. I now live within 10 minutes of Lake Murray, SC.
I've learned about what works (some of the time) in this lake instead of the usual black river haunts I was accustomed to. The big bait story here were the Beetle Spins and Johnson Silver Minnow. Both were producers for me.
I also got into a kayak - this one with pedals. Yep,…

So in my attempt to find what I need to do with my pond, I wanted to find out how the LMB population looked. So far it's hit or miss. The bluegill population seems to be seriously lacking, but the water is cold.
I'm trying to find out if Tilapia are legal in Maryland so I can get them to eat up some of the vegetation in the pond. I will keep fishing and start taking some notes on the actual numbers to help me move forward.
Here's the best bass that was…

A while back my boss at work told me he was going to be cleaning out his basement and that he might have a few things I would be interested in. A few days later he calls me to his office and gives me this... He said it was in with some of his dad' s old stuff and since I enjoy fly fishing he thought I would possibly be able to do something with it. I was very thankful and…
