Finally have a few days off..

Well... I actually took some vacation time. Have a few Honey-Dos to get done around the house but I plan on doing some fishing and getting started on re-finishing that cane fly rod I have been meaning to do. Wish me luck with my chores and hopefully moveing on to some enjoyable activiries.

New PB Bull!

Tuesday while I was fishing the private lake that caught caught me all of those perch last month and those nice bulls last year, I hit a nice one!

Was throwing a 4cm silver shad Rapala Jointed Shad Rap when I get a nice hit. It felt like I was reeling in a decent yellow perch that kept on getting grabbed hard by a big largemouth. I get it in and caught a new personal best bluegill! 9 1/2 inch 14 ounce bull which beat my old one by 1 ounce!…

Polluted waterways

http://motherjones.com/blue-marble/2012/03/top-10-polluted-rivers-waterways

Closest (to me) river on this list is the Delaware .Consider yourselves fortunate if you enjoy successful fishing from a river not on this list . Haven't fished the Delaware in years but still there are some good fish and cleaner sections than perhaps this study suggests.

Lost something big

I did pretty good today caught 13 bluegill's and 2 bass using a Mosquito but I think my line was friding and a little one snap it (My Fault wasn't thinking). So I just put a new #16 Mosquito on. About 4 cast's later letting it sit on top I made a few strip's while on top BAM! Something slam it hard, I pull up snap! I lost my last 2 Mosquito's both from a fish today. I couldn't tell if it was a big Gill maybe a bass I don't know all I saw was the top fin's couldn't make out the color tho. Ooo…

Calico Mania

Sunday 3/18 a buddy and I took his canoe into a CT lake. We went directly to the same area we were hitting crappie and largemouths at last year in early April, which is a shallow cove where a brook feeds in that has plenty of marshy structure.

I stuck with a 7cm firetiger Rapala Original Floater while my buddy played around with small live shiners on 1 rod and a 5cm silver Rapala Original Floater.

Topwater retrieves with the Original Floaters is what had the…

Something exciting is about to happen!

An important member of the bigbluegill.com family is about to get a little "media love". :-)

Actually TWO members are getting something cool in print.  I'll give you a hint about who they are.

One of them is named Jim Gronaw.

Ontario Panfish

Hello - Great website!  I love learning other anglers perspectives.  This is my first post to the site.  I fish panfish quite extensively here in Ontario.   I thought I would share a few youtube videos of panfishing in Ontario and if the group likes them, I'll share others.  If you want to talk Ontario bluegill or crappies, feel free to drop me a line.

Cheers,

LK…

Chumming for Bluegills in March....

The weather has been spring like for the past two weeks in northern Illinois(Waukegan) and I was wondering if the water temp. is in the mid 40's would chumming bring the gills into 7-10 feet of water? I hoping so cause I'm going out this weekend to try my luck at my honeyhole.

Bluegill Madness

Recently hit my usual late winter early spring pond. Have been hitting it for about 2 weeks now, but on Wednesday I saw bluegills stacked up thick in shallow areas. With all the sun and warmth we've been having, those shallow water temps must have warmed up.

The lure they were paying most attention to was a 2" soft plastic trout worm that already comes rigged with 2 hooks.

Every time I'd cast that worm out there with no weight, bluegills would come shooting out…

unattended rod

I recieved my first infraction from the california fish and game today. It was for fishing with an unattended rod. I have had a valid license as well as a 2 pole stamp forever. The warden said he had been watching me and he saw me walk away from my 2nd rod. I plan on fighting it because i was fully capable of getting to it if i had a hit. Has anyone ever heard of such nonsence in Ca?

SPOONFLY FIELD TEST

Finally got out today a gave the fingernail spoonflies a try!!!!!! Beautiful day on the PRAIRIE light breeze about 20 and gusty!!!! 80 degrees + awesome winter day!!!!!!!!! Armed with these spoons and a 3 wt. flyrod medium action, fast action would work better!!!!!! They cast well and actually cast into the wind better than with the wind to you back!!!!! The one with dressing on the hook took fish better than those with out!!!!!! Looked good in the water on an intermediate sinking…

ATTENTION OLD SCHOOL CRAPPIE FISHERMEN.

I have been told by 2 different people that there is a old school technique of fishing for crappie. The way it was explained to me is to cut below the lip of a crappie, pull on some type of membrane underneath and a forked tongue shaped piece of something will come off . You use this to jig with and it drives them wild. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Need Your Help

I am catching a variety of panfish at this time. Can someone help me identify them. There seems to be quite a difference in their color and shape.

Went out today. Wind hit around 9 mph. Did 32 bluegill and 4 crappie all on microjigs.
