LINE WARS

There’s a war going on out there and the battlefield is your own fishing budget or wallet. I was truly amazed when I turned the corner at my favorite wholesale outlet… the fishing aisles were completely made over. The areas were expanded more fishing rod selections etc including the line aisle… which really caught my eye!... so many consumer choices!!

This is the place to give your own personal reviews, studies, opinions on your favorite lines and applications. Remember its to the point now with so many variables and specifications some lines are better suited for different applications of fishing than other lines. However many people prefer to keep it simple and do it all with one line… Either way fish happy,

The group is designed to inform ask questions and give reviews.

also any hints or tips pertaining to fishing lines... knots etc.

  • Mono and more stretch for a minor bit of trolling ,i still use ,but am wondering if that's the best choice i have as things change through the many years I've been fishing .

John… there is no real one line type fits all recommendation… of course many fishermen try to do it all with just one brand and type of line and Ive done it for years and was a happy fisherman. I had a set-up I bought in 2006 that I filled with 6 or 8# spider wire and used it exclusively for everything. A couple seasons ago the reel broke down and was more expensive to repair than replace with a better model… I transferred the remaining spider wire braid to another reel! The line outlasted the reel!! Earlier this season while casting that setup the mono backing and splice showed and I now use the remaining segment of spider wire for thread tying Spring Crickets. 10 solid years of use. For durability in abuse and sensitivity braid would be your solid choice.

If asked by seeing your posts and snaps what I would recommend 6 or 8# Power Pro (1.5# mono dia. Equivalent) on your pred rods to include spinning and trolling… hands down. Spider Wire as second choice (9.99 at walmart) for a $10.00 investment that line could be on that reel for 10 seasons.

  • I was just reading about Gliss line. They sure incorporate a lot character into one line.

Bruce...I’ve been reviewing this line now since ice-out and have settled on it being the line of choice for the Long/Casting/Micro-Jigs application for me.

I started a discussion separately on this brand and type of line that is still to this date unfinished or ongoing… I am so pleased with it and have so many positive things to say about it I need a good few rainy days behind the computer to put it all together to finish up my review… its an awesome line

  • “I just bought some 8# test Pline CXX at the local shop .300 yds for $8.99 is one dollar cheaper I've seen on the net . Gonna try this copolymer on the casting rods for over the weed tops for Bass , Pickerel and panfish .Pickerel will cut through I'm sure unless I have some length to the hooks or crankbaits I'm throwing

I think this line is a great application for casting rods and reels… I used to use fluorocarbon and 40# braid as well on my casting gear. Im a bit embarrassed its been awhile since Ive used the old casting reels. Let us know how it works out for you John

Gliss Supersmooth Monotex Fishing Line

  • Thinner than braid but with comparable strength
  • Superior sensitivity results in consistent hooksets
  • Small diameter cuts through water quickly
  • Leaders won't snag on guides

John I never put my back into my cast just enough to get away from the boat and maybe a little farther than some but I'm fishing clear water lakes and like you want to feel all my bites is why I personally love Fluorocarbon . I know it may not be for everyone and was quit pricey when it 1st came out but has fell in line as far a prices go.
