Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

…a couple of weeks ago i obtained a spool of 8# GLISS and have used it on a couple trips so far my impression has been favorable in many aspects ... so this is going to be an ongoing review... and hoping some viewers have already started using the format of line already and would like to hear their input.

Gliss heh? Something to add onto the list.

Looks good but don't know if I  NEED it . Still get bit off by Pickerel fishing small lures though using 6#test Pline  : http://www.scout.com/outdoors/wired2fish/story/1592606-gliss-supers...

John I have casting equipment that has 40# braid on it that has the diameter of 8-10# mono… when bass fishing tossing large jigs and trailers up to 1.5oz  I used to get bit off a lot… using the thin super lines we still get bit off but we land upwards of 70-80% of our N.Pike Bites… that’s fishing for panfish with 1/64 – 1/32 oz baits jigs down to 1”. Super lines or mono … it doesn’t matter I have found out they bite thru just as easily on all line types. It’s a curse around here… the n.pike… There are a lot of them.

On my last video Earl Lands a 27” N.Pike on a 1/64 oz Lil Minnow. I land a smaller one later on the same jig. With no bite offs. it all depends on where the bait ends up in their mouth and thats still no guarantee. Panfishing the loss is less than 25 cents while those bass jigs used to cost me 5.00 when lost to bite-offs… when bit off ya curse a bit…LOL.

If I was focused for them (Toothies) I would fish a wire leader. I have some spoons that my Dad used to make when we were kids that n.pike love… I will not throw that bait out without a wire leader.

I feel when I put a wire leader on I catch less fish… especially bass and panfish. They are more line shy than n.pike in my experience. If I thru a wire leader on a panfish jig… there goes the jigs action and my fish count goes way down. Thin down the line and go to tinier baits has sent me up the curve with more fish as well as quality the past few years… so I hesitate when going to larger baits as well as thicker lines.

My favorite n.pike rig is 15# or 20# braid and a wire leader on a casting rig.

I was very excited when we discovered GLISS… I started off with 8# at .004 Dia… mono at 2# is between .004” and .006” I have just recently tried 12# GLISS at .005” dia and outcasts 2# mono! I horse the fish in with my ULs… the line allows me to do this.

Slip,I  got bit off by Pickerel twice ,targeting the Crappie the other day  on the same rod/reel and line I landed a small bait small hook 23" Pickerel last week. You are right the position of the hook in the mouth makes a difference .ALSO, when the wind kicks up the boat and line are all over the place that's when i usually get bit off unless I am vertical to the fish . When the surface is calm and the boats just sitting there like it's anchored I can control those fish much better .For now when I target Pickerel I am throwing longer lures and longer jig heads/hooks.They are still hitting medium size  Crankbaits and long spoons and big spinners well with out breakoffs .I definitely should stash some wire leaders in my tackle when i go out to Pickerel/Crappie lake I've been pounding though .It'' come time soon where small spoons are the preferred bait for Pickerel though .(November /December )Thanks man!

Might try WFT if it's not too expensive.

My usual lines are pretty standard and may or may not get cut off by picks depending on hooked area.

Always use braid as the main line; have a couple of options for mono or f/c leaders (wouldn't cast a lure without them) - all in diameters 4-6# test.

I've attached thin wire directly to small jig heads and agree - less fish are caught - and worse - no pickerel ever attacked the lures cast. Coincidence I'm sure, but what the hey, jigs are cheap and only an inconvenience to re-tie.

How do you like it so far?

Really like it for long casting tiny baits... its slick, smooth, thin, very supple and sensitive... its my farthest casting line for the tiny jigs. one of my rods has 12# GLISS loaded that is within the spec of 2# mono!

Currently i'm playing around with it on the ice and having favorable results.

Who sells it?

Sportsman's guide has a very good price on it...

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/productlist?k=gliss

Just to let everyone know... i bought my first (3) spools of GLISS in early spring of 2016.

i have used the 8# GLISS the most and is now being used in the 2016-7 ice fishing season. it is in great shape and hope to get multiple seasons on the spool as my other superlines.

the bright yellow 8# line has faded somewhat... so i prefer the white or translucent color.

So these superlines really are next-level stuff?

… 2019 open water season will be my fourth season casting this product ... it has been a very satisfying experience using it. 0 maintenance in ownership... in fact the only service Ive done is i flipped the line end for end...looks like new!

i have no idea how long this stuff will last but i am sure am enjoying it's economy, thinness, sensitivity and strength. i very highly recommend it.

i have 3 setups currently using this product 2 8# setups and one 12# in white and green ... the green has done very well with not fading as othe braid products do. the 8 and 12# test are so close in diameter and performance i lose track of which is which at times.

i recall quite a few times long-casting micro jigs for panfish when a lunker would hit... i would feel very confident winching them in with pressure using this line.

never lost a fish on it
