Not Gills, Smalliesi i

I managed to land two 18" smallies yesterday that were  close to 3 pounds. I was  throwing a foam Ole' Mr. Wiggly with my fly rod and catching them on top, which can be exciting. Each of them were…Continue

Hi Bruce, I had them custom made for me but they used two piece, 8 foot 4 weight fly rod and two piece, 8.5 foot 6 weight fly rod blanks. Graphite of course. On the 6 weight my rod locker only takes 8 foot max so they cut 3" of each end to stiffen it up some. I use these latter rods for walleye fishing, the 4 weight for panfish.

Since I use braid they used non ceramic guides and if you use slip bobbers then you need some oversized guides so the bobber stop doesn't hang up all the time. Also don't put a real long handle on them, think mine are only 12" with the reel seat just slightly forward of center in the handle. Can't stand using a longer rod with a 18" or longer handle section which most of it is usually wasted because they stick the reel seat at about 12-14" from butt end.

If I can help you any more let me know. arrowskp@live.com is my email where I could take pictures of these rods and send them to you.

Thanks, Kelly

sounds good, i don't fly fish all the time but i do enjoy it and like to tie some of my own patterns as well as tie jigs as well. we'll have to exchange cell numbers. i might even visit buck valley this winter yet. i think there is a way to personal message someone or email, not sure if we can exchange that kind of info on these posts or not....maybe some one can chime in and let me know. thanks,

john

We have FORUMS, BLOGS, CHAT ROOM, SPECIAL GROUPS, VIDEO'S, and the best PHOTOES you can find anywhere on the internet. Feel free to jump in and investigate the site it is loaded with information and above all don't be afraid to participate we are all still in the learning process and improving and honing our skills making us better fishermen/fisherwoman and enjoying it all throughout the process.

What you personally may add my be that little extra something that we can put in our own little bag of tricks something we can use to make us better fisher people ourselves.

We are all about Bluegill, Big Bluegills ( Bluegills, Sunfishes, Red Ears, Brim family) but not to stop there you will read about many different species of fish even some you may not have known even existed in the Blue Gill world and forums with many picture to share, but our main goal is catching that ultimate giant Gill so we can meet that special goal and maybe some braggin rights along the way.
