Do you love big bluegill?
There’s a war going on out there and the battlefield is your own fishing budget or wallet. I was truly amazed when I turned the corner at my favorite wholesale outlet… the fishing aisles were completely made over. The areas were expanded more fishing rod selections etc including the line aisle… which really caught my eye!... so many consumer choices!!
This is the place to give your own personal reviews, studies, opinions on your favorite lines and applications. Remember its to the point now with so many variables and specifications some lines are better suited for different applications of fishing than other lines. However many people prefer to keep it simple and do it all with one line… Either way fish happy,
The group is designed to inform ask questions and give reviews.
also any hints or tips pertaining to fishing lines... knots etc.

Carl, I don't think it's just your area. The Bass fishing industry is the driving economic force behind much of the inland US. Up here in the north, you also start to see a lot of Walleye gear as well. All those organized tournaments have a lot of funding available to lobby state and federal goobermints to get laws passed in their favor. Many state's DNR / F&G try very hard to use good, sound, science to guide rules/reg's/laws pertaining to fishing (and hunting), but often cave to pressure from these groups. This is but one of the reasons why I refuse to participate in these groups.
i remember looking for the line at walmart... i just checked... only through an internet order.... i could of swore i saw it on the shelf. So Carl i stand corrected. at Walmart but internet sales only.
i was at Walmart the other day looking for jig heads and hooks... i was lucky to find jigs in the 1/32 oz and no small panfish hooks.... your right everthing seems catering to the LMB.
NOT AT MY WAL-MART BY ANY MEANS ! I LIVE IN A VERY SMALL TOWN;; GOVERENED BY; BASS FISHERMEN; CATFISH SECOND CHOICE ! THEN; CRAPPIE;; BLUE GILL ; IN MY AREA;; IS CONSIDERED; ONLY FOR -- BAIT ! BUT;; I SURE DO GET A HECTIC LOOK ; FROM OTHER FISHERMEN; WHEN I TELL THEM IM GOING AFTER BLUE GILL ! AND WHEN I MEASURE MY ; LIVE WELL; TO OTHERS;;; WELLLLL;; IM SO FAR AHEAD OF THEM ;; MAKES THEM JEALOUS ! AND I HAVE BEEN ASKED; TO ( DONATE ) A FEW BLUE GILL;; FOR BAIT;;; NOPE ! AINT HAPPENING !! I JUST SENT SONNY A MESSAGE;; AS TO WHAT TYPE OF LINE HE USES;; BUT; TO THE VERY BEST OF MY RECOLATION; HE MENTIONED SOME TIME AGO; HE USED;; GLISS LINE !! IF HE DIDNT;; CHALK I TUP TO BEING; A OLD FART !

Nope… Sonny uses a particular brand of monofilament…mono is common with many California anglers… as far as I know I am the only one on this site using GLISS in the 2# mono diameter range but at 8 and 12# test range… I crank in the fish offering no play.
GLISS is also available at Cabela’s and Walmart.
SONNY USES;; GLISS LINE ;; IN THE 2 POUND RANGE HAS; FOR MANY YEARS ;; POSTED IT ABOUT A YEAR OR SO AGO;; MY QUESTION IS;; HOW TUFF IS THAT LINE ?? NOT AVAILABLE IN MY AREA;; WOULD HAVE TO ORDER IT SOMEWHERE ;; BUT;; NOT IN A 2 POUND !! IM NOT THAT GOOD AT HANDLING MONSTERS;; ON THAT THIN LINE !
Leo I think Sony uses 2 lb test or less.
It's good to have a light line to play with the presentation and the fishes. But always keep in mind that light line is meant for small fishes. If you're chasing after small fishes, and suddenly get the big ones stealing the show, it will be a nightmare of a fun time.
I believe Ken spotted a few 2lbs, as well as Jeff (Soto) and Sonny ventured into the 1lb (or was it 1.5lbs) arena. Perfect for the real fun, with super light and slow sinking presentation. However, make sure to you have about an hour worth of patience to deal with the 4lbs+ hungry monsters.
From what I understood, the sensitivity for flouro at the 2lbs and less is much more needed. I prefer the mono over flouro for forgiveness. Braid, unless you have the money to toss out every few outings, don't even bother.
Longer casts but remember it is 2 lb test so's not to hoarse the fish in.
I use 2lb. test on my spinning ice reels, but I never used it on a long rod. How does it cast?
Yes, the no stretch factor is a real plus when the temps are high and the fish are hyper active .
