LINE WARS

There’s a war going on out there and the battlefield is your own fishing budget or wallet. I was truly amazed when I turned the corner at my favorite wholesale outlet… the fishing aisles were completely made over. The areas were expanded more fishing rod selections etc including the line aisle… which really caught my eye!... so many consumer choices!!

This is the place to give your own personal reviews, studies, opinions on your favorite lines and applications. Remember its to the point now with so many variables and specifications some lines are better suited for different applications of fishing than other lines. However many people prefer to keep it simple and do it all with one line… Either way fish happy,

The group is designed to inform ask questions and give reviews.

also any hints or tips pertaining to fishing lines... knots etc.

Bruce if you ever figure out how to keep the line twist out of spinning you will be the 1st. You are correct that putting the line on your spool correctly will help in that dreaded line twist the 1st step but there is so much more to it. I wrote a couple articles as to how to help to eliminate lots of the twist but lets face it you'll never eliminate all of it and somewhere sometime you'll be making that long cast and here comes a big wad of line all twisted and tied up you will have to remove that section and retie your lure on.. Although spinning is easy to cast and get more distance is never comes off your spool the same like a level wind which will eliminate that dreaded line twist but then you have that wad of line around your spool there is a learning curve on how to cast a level wind. The when you get that figured out then there is casting light lures which as far as I know haven't seen a level wind that can outcast a spinning reel yet. These are just a few things but as far as completely eliminating the line twist on a spinning reel it just can't happen.

Well by all means be sure to have the line coming off the spool and headed in the same direction  as the path of the turning spool.I think memory coils being on the spool for awhile and after stuff getting picked up in the film of the water may be why i get some tangles.I am sure to take out the coils with a "twist out"after fishing .I get weird looks and comments by neighbors when they see me casting in the yard or driveway and attaching a line straightener to my line .

Yeah, I'm a mono man. I keep coming back to mono time after time. Why? Cost. Butt load of line for dirt cheap.

I've been using Stren. It does have some stretch to it, I agree. But, once I realized how to put it on  my spool correctly my tangles ended.

Bruce- With the Pline Premium Copolymer line I am hoping to have fewer tangle problems and less stretch than the mono brands I've been using .I have a surplus of old bulk spools of BPS Excel and Cabelas mono as well as some Trilene and Stren that needs using up but I am hoping to upgrade .What monos are you using that you're happy with ? Flurocarbon is stiff but the Pline copolymer  flluro coated isn't,which I like.

Bruce that's why they sell so many different types of line. Personally I can tell a big difference in fluorocarbon and have it in about a dozens rods. 2 main reasons I like it, it don't stretch and you can feel everything. To me this is an advantage since my ultra lights are all sort of wimpy so I personally find I have good hook sets. I haven't been fishing much to try out some of the other Hi-tech lines but anxious to do so when the opportunity arises.

I'm just not a fan of fluorocarbon. It's too expensive, it doesn't degrade when people throw it  on the ground, and I'm satisfied with mono. I tried using fluoro when fly fishing for trout and I saw no advantage. Just my humble opinion. I'm not trying to start an argument.

There are differences(advantages) between this Pline Copolymer and mono :https://www.trails.com/list_7566_monofilament-vs-copolymer-fishing-...

1st time using the CX Premium Line .(6#) Gonna buy some 4# test. Lays on the spool very nicely . Casts great and seems to live up to less stretch, improved limpness, and low memory and thinner per test claims .Hope to get a big one in the junk to see if it lives up to ultra strong claims . It's a coated Copolymer . HERE ARE THE CLAIMS: "P-Line's CX Premium Fluorocarbon Coated Line is one of the most innovative lines available, combining copolymer and fluorocarbon technologies. With low memory and improved limpness, CX Premium eliminates the line nightmares of a spinning reel, and improves casting distance with a baitcasting reel. The fluorocarbon-silicone coating virtually eliminates water absorption, so cold water and weather have little effect on line performance. With as much as 30% less stretch than average lines, it has increased sensitivity to detect and react to even the most subtle strikes. This great all-purpose premium line is available in clear fluorescent and moss green and hi-vis fluorescent green."

...and the hi-viz yellow can be seen vividly under a black light.

If youre a night angler, get you a 12V ultraviolet LED lamp and you'll see things in a whole new light...
