Those adjust-a- bubble fishing floats can be hard to get the line down though them,if the in breaks and you have to re-rig. I thought about this after spending 20 minutes trying retread one while fishing,The answer is really so easy that you all are going kick yourselves if you haven't already came up with answer.  Bread ties...you strip the paper off leaving a bare wire thread that up though the float or bobber and bend it over to crate a tiny hooks or eye slip your line into and pull 20 seconds and you are ready to put on the rest of your tackle. And back to fishing. You can also get as many as you in the produce department at your local Wal-mart or grocery store. I also raid the longer ones from the trash bag box. Good luck!!!!!!!

Exactly...the Mid Atlantic often has winters where there is skim to 3 inches of ice on the water, and there is no one fishing for several months due to this 'prolonged' transition period that keeps you from fishing. I feel for you, especially with all those great small mouth catches late in the season you were making. Hope the ice tightens up in the north so folks can get out and fish safely.

Jim... yeah those are some great numbers... and congrats on a great season!

the thing is transition periods on my lakes from soft/hard and hard/soft water takes up to 3 mos out of my year then 2-3 mos of ice where 1 out of 4 days your actually able to go out weather permitting. so yes number for for the northerners go down drastically between November and April. 6 mos of season with low numbers on avg.

last year I tried ice fishing... and was able to make a decent showing despite my physical conditions by fishing smarter by doing some upfront work during softwater season marking waypoints etc on potentially good winter spots. kept the waypoints close to the public access so easy on and off and close to the spots were key in keeping me in the game.

my greatest fear now is having transition ice for the next 4 mos.... ouch!

David ... yeah that was my number one goal last year was to be more organized... and I seems like its getting there. kayak was on wheels with some equipment always on board to go in a moments notice... less preparation. less energy spent up front means more energy left to spend on the water.

I remember the days when we were kids my dad would get out his tackle boxes and spill it out on the table and us kids gathered around and cleaned and organized the tackle.

If anything, my fishing time and volumne has increased, especially the past few weeks with such mild temperatures. I know that most guys are packing it away or prepping for ice fishing in the north country. But in the Mid Atlantic, a mild winter means fishing all winter long. We have caught and released over two-thousand bluegills and crappies since Nov 1, and they are calling for record highs on Christmas...

...gimme a rod!

Don't know how much input I'll have I don't get out a lot anymore seems like that old adage kicks in use it or loose it. Lord knows and I know I have forgotten so much there are things people bring up that I did many moons ago but I just plain forgot about. Still if I can be of help hey here I am.
