Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

As we know powder coating is the thing and we know why it easy and clean and dries instantly. I have a question hoping I can get an answer to. I quit powder coating my jigs cause I haven't found a way to keep the powder out of the eyes and I know it can be done looking at some of the jigs I have seen on the BBG site and some great looking ones I might add. But my question is how do I powder coat and not get powder in the eyes of the hook. Thanks all I will appreciate any info and it's probably something so easy I'm overlooking the obvious my my just doesn't work well all the time so if you've any suggestions I would appreciate any help I can get. THANKS MUCH

Light a candle and dip the jig's eye into the wax.  Powder coat it as usual.  Then scrape any wax off that's left???

Thanks Allen I tried that and didn't work to well. I f you scrape it off soon its hot and hard to handle without messing up the rest of the paint job.

im not positive ,but i think my buddy takes his forceps and clamps them on the eye .try that ,ill try to find out for sure and let you know

Thanks Ronald I can see how that would work but you'd be cleaning your forceps constantly but maybe that's better than trying to clean the eyes out all the time.

I have the same problem with powder coating jigs, Dick. I wonder if putting a small piece of wire through the eye might work then pulling it out after dipping the jig head in the powder paint. Right now I just go ahead and dip the whole head and use a eye buster on them after the paint sets up. This works ok but keeping the paint out of the hook eye sounds better yet.

Sounds like a keeper buddy. May be a little time consuming but still faster than having to clean out all then eyes.

I used the same method as Vince. Make sure to clear the eye out while the paint just got finished with the dip. This way, the eye is cleared before hardening heating.

I just poke and twist a toothpick or a piece of wire thru the eye immediately after dipping

Thanks jimvision for the input that sounds like the easiest and fastest method thus far.

Hi Dick,  when I'm painting my jigs I just use a small pair of needle nose pliers on the hook eye.  The paint doesn't stick to the pliers because they never get hot enough and don't get heated to cure, if any paint gets stuck it just scrapes off.    The crappie forum has a large section on pouring and painting jigs.

I'll check it out and thanks Steve
