Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I went on you tube looking at different knots, and found one called the 100% knot. I sometimes have trouble seeing my 2 and 4 lb. test when I tie a improved clinch knot, and thought I would try something easier on my eyes. I lost two fish today because of knot failure. I finally just squinted hard, and went back to the improved clinch knot. Has anyone else on here tried this knot?

Allow me to correct myself -

According to my research, the Improved Clinch and Uni-knot come in around the high 70 percentile. The Trilene knot makes it just over the 90% line.

Hi Vince, The palamar is the best I have found and with small line, that many of us use, it allows for a larger loop hole to tie a knot with. Tied wet, it is said to be a 100%. I have pulled the the line broke above the knot most of the time and the line appears to have reached the breaking point.

I use a odd knot on my jigs that allow them to swim. They break most often, first, and I come back to the boat with just the jig(s) gone.

Agree Mike. But Palamar knot is suitable if you're using a size 14 to 24 fly hooks with a 2lbs mono. That's why the Davy knot is appealing at the moment, with very little bulk above the hook's eye, yet durable.

The palomar knot seems to be pretty popular. I need to learn how to tie one.

Never tried the 100% knot. I use the Palomar - can still tye it with out glasses (if I have to). We land some good size fish on 2lb test, using the Palomar knot.

Hi yes i was there too, check out the knot with a  hemastat on you tube also a tool called a fast tie ,hope it helps you out. Sleepy

I've got the same problem with loss of vision in my right eye ..very depressing until told about this
Simple Knot called a "DAVY KNOT, strongest, simplest knot I have ever used ..I have yet to have the
knot separate or break on me ...goggle Davy knot you'll see ...

Thanks Paul. Another knot for the family to learn. Quite simple enough.

Leo
If I can learn that knot anyone can I promise you that ... When I first saw it
I said these people are kidding me ..something,that simple cannot be that strong .wrong!!!
Wait til ya use it you'll be amazed ...I sound like I'm a salesman for them ..you ll see ..go into the garage, get a piece of old mono and practice ..let me know how make out .....
Paul

I will definitely report back tonight when I get back home. Wife and kids will thank you for making it easier for them. It appears that the creases are minimal to none using this knot, which means less line breaks at the hook's eye.

Lion I used this knot last week. Apparently it's an old fly tiers knot. I did try it out and seem to work well, well enough I will be trying it out again. Down side is I can't really tell you if it will hold a big fish cause all I caught was dinks. I did tie it and applied alot of stretch to it and it held so like I said I will use it some more and try to put it through it's paces.

Excellent to know Dick. I'll test it out with the meter I have for the breaking strength using different lines. I will definitely let you know if it can handle the big boys in the water based on weight test.
