Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Well, I missed last week, due to my trip to Louisiana (heat-wave there... not much fishing)

Anyway, right from the start, I have to say it was a VERY tough trip. Only caught 5 Bluegills, and 1 Redear.......

But two of the Bluegill went 1.7 lb each ! And the one Redear was another MONSTER ! This one had a slightly smaller frame than my 3.2 lb'er did, but it was even fatter ! Weighed it at 3.1 lbs, and I was quick enough with the photos, that it released good and strong :-)

The pair of 1.7 lb Bluegill were not so lucky though. They are now swimming in my belly ;-)

Anyway, not bad for a straggler, huh ? It had obviously not laid the first egg.

One of the 1.7 lb Bluegill.....

On the way to the lake, I made a pit stop, and just about walked over this guy !

Pretty tattered looking. I suspect it was moulting. Still pretty cool though, huh ?

In spite of the tough bite, the 3.1 lb'er by itself, made it a great trip  :-)

Peace,

Fish

Chris...those are world class fish, bonafide trophies anywhere ! Congrats on another sensational red ear!

That bluegill looks to be some kind of a hybrid critter... anybody care to make an assessment?

Another great story and excellent photos. Nice job, FC!
Chris, great day those are bigguns. You are the Shellcracker King....:) when I grow up I want to catch fish like you....LOL
Chris great job on the giant redears and great pixs to go with them. That is a dream of mine to catch a redear large enough so I could have some bragging rights. I couldn't imagine catching a redear that large. Chris keep up the good work and above all GOOD FISHIN..
My biggest redear weighed in just under 2 lbs so I can,t imagine a 3.1 and a 3.2 lber. You are blessed with those fish.

OH! Beautiful catches and gorgeous photos.

Great fish.

Good thing you spotted that snake.

That would have really put a dammper on the enrtire trip.

glad you made it back safe and sound.

Fish Chris them are truly some fish to brag about. The giant redear and the bluegill are definitely a pair of monsters. Great job on your monster fish.

Some huge fish, for sure. Id fall out of the boat if I caught something like that. You're a humble man, Chris, able to keep it down after a catch like that. Thumbs up!

I didnt see it, but some people who came down to the river yesterday spotted a water moccasin. As for birds, I saw a raggedy duck hanging around the boat ramp...

Thanks, Chris. Inspiring.

Those transplanted redears are just getting huge in many California waters. Exceptional catches by an exceptional angler. Great job!

great pix and some incredible fish!

Looks like an awesome trip even if the fishing was slow!!!!!!

From the size of the buzzers, you should have cleaned and fried it up !!!!!!!
