Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

It has been a very short, and uncommon type of winter in northern Illinois.....with the late start to the ice season, gill fishing has been sub-standard at best......but the bass fishing has been tremendous....here are some fish from this years 3 week ice season.

I have a question for the northern hard water fishermen and ladies.   Do you all ever use a wacky rigged 3" worm for bass or do you stick to the more traditional ice fishing rigs?  The bass pictured above are phenominal.  Nick

We actually targeted these fish using tip-ups, and large golden shiners....All of these fish came from the same body of water, a 46 acre private lake (Lake Antioch), a typical dishpan lake with a max depth of nine feet......all were captured within its expansive basin, between Jan 13, and Feb 3......the game is over now as we witnessed a girl fall through the ice today, and barely made it out ourselves......Body holes in the sketchy ice...

Nice Bass. I think you found yourself a honeyhole. Did you catch them all out of the same body of water and what was your bait of choice?

Outstanding ice fishing for bass. Were all those fish by-catches while seeking other species, or did you cave in and target them when the panfish pooped out ?

Excellent healthy catches and a huge thrill through the ice !!! I am curious about the average depth these fish were caught at and what the bottom content was like!

Now that would be a ton of fun.  We're in a blizzard right now, so fishing sure sounds appealing.
