SPOONFLY FIELD TEST

Finally got out today a gave the fingernail spoonflies a try!!!!!! Beautiful day on the PRAIRIE light breeze about 20 and gusty!!!! 80 degrees + awesome winter day!!!!!!!!! Armed with these spoons and a 3 wt. flyrod medium action, fast action would work better!!!!!! They cast well and actually cast into the wind better than with the wind to you back!!!!! The one with dressing on the hook took fish better than those with out!!!!!! Looked good in the water on an intermediate sinking…

FLYRODDERS, Did you ever feel left out when BILL"MUSKY" MODICA......

As a FLYRODDER, I always feel left out when BILL catches these huge BLUEGILL on spoons!!!!

I haven't used a spinning rod in years because I love the feel of long rod In my hand!!!!!!! Spoons and Flyrod do not mix!!!!! Even in the smaller sizes, a chunk of metal whizzing past your ear is a little scary to say the least!!!!! Even a wide brimmed hat offers little protction!!!!!!

In 95 or 96, Fly Tyer Magazine had an artical in unusual material section!!! Basically a hook…

Did you ever get to a new campground only to find out they do not have a place to clean your fresh caught batch of bluegill???? ( Happened to me)

Now you have to find an alternate. You can use a board on the tailgate of your truck, which is fine, but unless you have a monster truck that can be hard on your back!!! Picnic table works but,  for obvious reason that…

Story Submitted to the Editors of INWEED MAGAZINE

I was honored recently when I was asked to submit an artical on taking weeds on a Fly Rod. Setting out on my task I arrived at a secret location where LARGE WEEDS were known to inhabit. Upon arrival I immediatly saw them surfacing in the shallows. They were taunting me.

With floating line, poppers, and small nymphs I carefully approached my target. Poppers were left untouched, but after I put on a small weighted nymph, things started to happen. But the Weeds taken were small. Not what I… Continue

Quest, With a little help from my Friends

This quest began with Tommy Winton, of Florida. He was posting pictures of MASS QUANTITIES of Blue Gill and Red Ears. The picture that got the ball rolling was his picture titled "86 Gill and Shells". Reading thru the comment found out he had caught them on crickets fished in 12" of water on bottom. One of Tommy's quotes is " If they not hitting CRICKET they are not going to touch anything!"

I am a flyrodder so live bait is not an option and began working on a sinking cricket pattern.…
