Electric reel

I was thinking maybe if I got my wife an electric reel I can get her fishing again and that would be to my benefit maybe I can fish more than once or twice a year cause she'll be with me. The one's I seen through the internet look big and heavy. I need small and light. I know she loves to fish maybe this will be the ticket so she can enjoy it once again. I know I will have to order it because I've never seen them in any sporting goods store and I know there not cheep so I really need to shop…

Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva is 7 miles long, and 2 miles wide......during the summer months, the lake is home to a vast amount of pleasure boaters, jet skiers, para sailors, and the like.....The shoreline of LG is dotted with extravagant 7 figure homes which become the talking point of several large cruise ships that offer tours of this amazing body of water......I've had the pleasure of fishing LG hundreds of times over the last 30 yrs, and during that time I've had the opportunity to explore its intricate…

Late Fall Lake Geneva report

Fished Lake Geneva with Rod Lee today 10am-4:30pm....scoured vast expanses of deep weed edges in search of bluegills between 10am and 2pm.....virtual dead sea. Slid the boat over deep water for a look.....nada.

We headed back to our original starting point in 15 fow for another drift.....following my previous gps track, we drifted bobber sets at 10' down.....and dragged 1/16 oz spoons with the hopes of scraping up a few fish.....I had already chalked the day up as one of sorrow…

To the memory of Bluegill Boogieman

A year ago we lost a treasured member on this sight. His name was Joseph Parker known here as Bluegill Boogieman. Everyone please say a prayer for the friends and family he left behind. I for one have missed him greatly and all that he contributed to this sight.

Lake Perris optimal time of year

So if any of you good folks in California were to recommend the best month of the year to fish Lake Perris, what would it be?  Are there guides who take people out specifically for bluegill and redears?

HATS OFF TO BILL MODICA...SPOON GURU!

Hey y'all, I don't know how many have seen it yet, but the latest In Fisherman magazine ( May 2011) has an outstanding feature article by our own Bill Modica on the pleasures and pursuits of using spoons for big gills! This is exciting stuff, as bill has long been advocating the use of these techniques on this site. Detailed rigs and tactics are again focused, as are many of his tutorial videos found on this site.

Like many of you, I was somewhat skeptical when I first read and heard…

This site

This is one of the only sites, I use anymore. I did belong to a couple others, but they have turned in to, too much drama and fights. I really like this site, seems more like family and friends and good info. Just wanted to thank everyone, for keeping this a great site.

Thanks again

Read a great quote today.

I have been reading a book, written, by a local man. The author is Art Reid, He was a writer for the Southern Illinoisan newsapaper and had a tv show. This quote is from Fishing Southern Illinois.

"Bluegill fisherman are not given to overmodesty, nor do they dampen enthusiasm by putting many bluegills on the scales."

Daryl Bauer speaks about big bluegill--where they are in the Midwest and how to catch them...

The following is an excerpt from Daryl Bauers commentary on big bluegill. Daryl is the Lakes and Reservoirs Program Manager for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

The best Nebraska waters for a really big bluegill on the fly-rod might be private ponds, maybe some private pits. Some of those have excellent water quality and habitat and do not have excessive fishing pressure. So, if you can gain access to some of those waters, that might be your best bet for your… Continue

Aggressive Redbreasts

Monday and Tuesday were fun days with those aggressive redbreasts.

Monday at the areas I've been hitting the sunfish, perch, and bass, the fish didn't seem too interested in what I had been catching them with. Later in the day once I switched over to a 5cm hot steel Rapala Original Floater and twitched it very lightly on the surface with occasional pauses, those redbreasts were acting like largemouths would on a topwater!

Very colorful redbreasts along…

Travis Jackson catches the North Carolina Shellcracker Record 5/19/2008

Mrs. Jackson pulled her son away from his Sony Playstation that day in May three years ago and Travis soon landed the fish pictured in a farm pond in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. The fish measured 15 and 1/16 inches long and had a girth of 18 and 1/8 inches! The weight was certified @ a local Piggly Wiggly grocery store in nearby Rocky Mount. That's why I fish because you… Continue
