Literally. It wasnt but just a couple years ago and I was changing their diapers and rocking them to sleep. Now I am baiting their hooks, removing their fish, snapping tons of photos, and just having a great time fishing and exploring the outdoors with these gals! Yesterday we spent about an hour hiking down to the pond, drilling and scooping out numerous holes just for…

Could those of you lucky enough to catch fish, photograph them, and put online here, please identify what they are for those of us still ignorant? I'm still trying to guess the different types of BG, and am usually wrong the few times they are identified.
Thank you,
Sharon

The ice was 3ish inches. Caught in 12 ft. of water off the bottom on a size 12 pink jig and a wax worm. Temp at the time was low teens. Been below zero the past few nights but because we got so much snow on the ice last wed. the freeze up is going slow. Be careful out there!!

Cant wait for the ice to come.Got a flasher for fishing this year and am hoping for a couple of inches to walk on this weekend. This is an annual rite of passage for many of us up in the north (although I just took it up last year at 36) But not everyone that fishes up here thinks its that great ,I can honestly say, I didnt either, til, I pulled that first 8" gill up the hole.
When your on the outside looking in, I guess, it seems kind of dumb to sit in front of a bunch of different…

Hey gang, I know that it's warm in the south and starting to freeze -up in the north, but I just thought I'd pass along some tactics that have worked for me the past many years once the water temperatures drop below 50 F down even to as low as 38 F in 'open-water' scenarios in the Mid-Atlantic.
I utilize hairjigs that I tie in several options and sizes. This is not a blog designed to advertise my product, but rather to help winter time panfishermen use what I believe to be a deadly…

I'm going to break one of my personal rules today.
Even though this really isn't about bluegill, I'd like to give a big "shout out" to John Sheehan's Christmas guitar instrumental CD. I've been listening to it for hours, and it's absolutely awesome.
I thought it would be appropriate on this forum to mention, because John is an avid member of
www.bigbluegill.com , and this music is custom made for sitting in an ice fishing hut and…

It was one of my regular Saturdays, which meant that I would have nothing to do so I decided to go fishing.
Once I had all my gear and stuff ready to put in the truck and head out I realized that the air was kind of cold then I thought that maybe this will push the fish deeper than it regularly would but I had no more thought of it, so I put the stuff in the truck and headed out.
Once I got to the lake I saw that there was a lot of fog on the water which to me suggested…

Hello All...
I'm looking forward to the ice fishing season. I've never had a lot of luck in late fall from shore. Can't wait for ice so that I can access some deeper water and some different lakes and ponds. I do not own a boat.
I'd like to get a one man portable shelter...any recommendations? I already have one of the "Ice Cube" shelters that I picked up for $25 end of season clearance a few years back. That works fine for the kids and I when we locate a good spot. But I'd like…

Hey y'all, I just got back from a very brief outing at my favorite local bass pond and I must say that the bluegill fishing was 'on' this evening! Nothin tough, just used the same 1/32 nd oz jighead tipped with a chunk of nightcrawler that we used on the Richmond Mills fish. Only this time I suspended the bait about 2 ft below a small bobber.
The result...21 gills in a bout 35 minutes on the water. Could have kept a dozen eaters, but I just wanted to have fun. Must say that I was…

Hey Bruce, Those are the gills that we all dream of catching. As members of this site, and other true gill chasers, can anyone fish this spot as a paying consumer? What was the average sized gill you guys caught? What issue of In_Fisherman will the article be in? Guess I could ask questions all day. Again, great gills and lets keep on dreaming and fishing. Nick Holt.
