Leeches you order by the pound - they are out of season right now but soon they will start back up soon - They run about $18.00for 22 dozen small leeches- that's a load of leeches. Add shipping $7.50 etc.

They take some care to keep them iced in a cooler while you fish as well as a partial water change. But- this is one awesome bait and nothing beats its swimming action on a float!

Me, I like worms...garden, red or small nightcrawlers will do on almost all situations fishing them as a tipping bait or whole. Just gimme a shovel and I got bait!

Crickets are $3.50 a hundred on any street corner in the south. Leeches must be a northern thing.

To hook a cricket, hold between thumb and index belly down. Insert point of hook under collar behind head. Bring out at bottom of collar, roll hook and insert point into top rear of abdomen and out belly. Fish with float at desired depth. Use single "b" sinker. I'll try to video it this weekend. Leeches are not part of my repertoire.

Spikes - maggots hands down favorite. Everything from gills to channel cat & trout hammer them. Our club buys them in bulk so members can buy 1,000 of them for $6. I can catch 3 gills on same spike ( although I use some to attract and get fish feeding) double spike on a size 14 hook took down a 15" rainbow and 2 17" cats.

Anyone have quick links on how to hook and fish crickets and leeches? What are you guys coughing up on the price/count for these two baits.

My favorite BlueGill Bait is a Mealworm. They keep fresh forever it seems. They save the day when water temp is below 50 degrees .Blue Gills love them and hooked at the end not in the face so as to kill them mealworms will squirm and attract Gills and PSeeds to the hook.I'll have night crawlers along too and use a1/4 or 1/3 of a piece on a hook,or jig or small spoon if temp is 50 degree or above.
