It is a classic, indeed. If you have a place where you can get away with it.... er, "practice it to good effect," it is a proven tactic.  Its a lot cheaper than an automatic feeding station, too.

Amen to the bacon grease as far as the grits that might be good for making minnow chum.

I caught lot of gills and a couple of big bass on a "sour patch" candy,  rigged on a dropshot

Interesting that you mentioned it. Some people actually mentioned the same thing on YouTube. It's the sugars, salt, and the flavoring extract, which proves that all the ingredients can be made into a colored dough ball. Hm..drop shot, flavored dough ball to attract, and live bait as presentation..Cool approach for spring.

Leo, I sprinkle garlic salt and sometimes colored sugar, on hot dogs when I use them as bait. Seems to help

little sour crawlers made by trolly, i think. i didnt catch any gills but a nice channel cat, i used the red and yellow color. it could work for gills who knows. :)

most certainly anything that looks edible to me in the grocery store, would also be liked by my fishy friends in the water. lol!

Yea I remember when I was a kid don't know how I remember that far back but that was my go to bait (hot dogs) because we never could keep enough worms.
