Did you ever try to teach your wife to drive, Leo? No man should endure *that.*

Well, didn't teach her to drive the car, but did teach her how row the kayak a few times when we went to Catalina, scuba diving, and off road ATV. I guess I built a resistance to the female's thing, since 95% of childhood friends were girls. LOL

i think renting or borrowing one would be the way to go.but 30 years in construction has taken its toll .some people love em,i might have a hard time getting in and out.they do make a jet powered kayak with a little honda jet drive unit that drops in the back somehow.i think it cost 6000 tho.

There's also the Hobie Torquedo.  Has a little battery-powered trolling motor that drops into a slot in the back.

The whole idea of test riding is nice. It gives you a chance to learn what you like in a boat. But........ No test ride is going to tell you a thing about the boat itself, where you fish.

Its like test driving a car; its only after a couple weeks go by that you really learn what the car does on YOUR day-to-day.

Find one you like, with the features you like - but expect to adapt to IT more than the other way around.

Oh, and plan to use a trailer for transport. In the long run, it will make the experience far more enjoyable. Seriously.

I did teach wifey to drive, then drive a my old 4x4 with the 4 froward "granny tranny", but I had rather have a kayak to myself, besides I dont get to fish as much when she goes , she does ok but its easier by myself...ya'll get it I'm sure.

I agree that $1k is to much to give, I aint gonna get in a big hurry with a purchase, take my time & look for a deal, money is to hard to get a hold of to buy on impulse, plus I still have my trusty ole 10 ft flat bottom. ( the flat bottom mite be the perfect excuse to buy a  solo yak, just enuff room for my little Mtn. Fiest  & me. HA !!!!)
