Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

What state would you choose to fish Bluegill if you could only pick one?

We are fortunate to have members from all over this great nation...One of my favorite things about Bigbluegill.com is the instant connection with the people that love and enjoy the same things that I do when it comes to all things Bluegill from folks all over the country.....Many of us have also had the great experience of fishing several different states whether vacationing, traveling for work or as a result of moving..... If you could pick one state to fish Bluegill, what state would it be and why? Thanks for sharing and I expect this may be a difficult choice for some and very easy for others.....Again, thanks in advance!

Without a "playoff" this is still my top five!.........I've documented many of the reasons on this site...........

Agree 100% with you on that.

South Carolina.

Why? It hurts my head to think about all the other possibilities so I'll just keep it simple. Besides, world records have been caught here - and it's where I live. I likes to fish close to home; the cornbread is fresh and the ice tea coldest.

Now if I could travel wherever I wanted to fish, I would go visit all my BBG friends. I'd start with Dick Tabbert, and bring some decent grits for him.

Since I don't do much if any traveling out of state, it would have to be my home state of Indiana.

Eric

Nothing wrong with that Eric......the Hoosier state is represented very well on this site!

You bet it is Mr. Abney!

The only guided trip I took was on Lake Okeechobee in Fla. where my son and I caught 150+  in 1 1/2 hours while wading amongst a bunch of alligators who thankfully left us alone.  So it would rank up there on my list.

This definitely sounds like a memorable trip Marty........in a creek in South Carolina I would often catch gills right next to gators but that has all changed now that they are getting hunted there.......I wasn't wading by these though....lol

South Carolina is third on my list but very close to overtaking Louisiana for second.....My personal best gill always gives me confidence fishing the Palmetto State...It doesn't hurt knowing I can get Shrimp and Grits while I'm here either!

and me too. lol

Warm cornbread, cold tea and a fish fry. Sounds excellent for a Rendezvous!!

Key to happiness learn to love what you're handed in life, out of all the places I've lived there always seem to be beautiful scenery and fish to be caught if you're willing to get out there and search it out.  I've only fished for gills in oh, md, ny, va, sc, nc, ga, ky, and mi.  Out of those states sc produced the most solid stringers but I caught nice gills everywhere I invested the time to learn the available waters.
