I've found that nymph-like flies seem to produce well. Mine are not like anything that actually occurs in Nature, but more like 'generic' representations.
My favorite is a Briminator in brown or other subdued color, and there are others.
I tried a "realistic" nymph style early on and also had some success, but the Brimjnator is sooooo much easier to tie, it's tough, and it works.

SIDENOTE: I've also had some welcome catching on tenkara style 'kebari,' which in the water must appear as something nymph-like - they REALLY don't look like anything realistic.

After examining studies on fish vision, and looking at OLD flies til I'm cross-eyed, I'm convinced we don't need to make exacting replicas unless we want to.

I'm all for flies that take 3 materials and are relatively simple.

Thanks Leo! Actually, I haven't fished it much at all really. I haven't really had any luck with damselfly type things,  but I should probably give it a chance haha.

LOL.  I thought that one looked familiar!  Have you fished it much?

Thanks guys! Here is the run down....The crawfish has caught me a nice cat and some bass from a local pond, the black fly to the bottom left is an adaptation of a Chubby Chaser Leech carp fly, the black one below it is something i threw together and kinda similar. I didn't know the leech pattern existed before i tied that one haha. The clousers don't need an explanation since you know... The little olive one below the clousers was inspired by Rex's use of stretch magic, and my buddy landed his first carp on one, and I landed a huge Rio Grande cichlid and a nice carp as well. The one to the right of the olive one, is another stretch magic fly which hasn't produced anything for me yet. The tan foam one is one of my go to top water flies around here, I've never seen such a productive topwater bug. The damselfly is a little rough around the edges, but is my first one. The big guy is an articulated fly, made to look like a baby bass. The damselfly nymph at the top is inspired by Allen Morgan and is fun to make, because it looks awesome. The red one below it, is another one I threw together, but has yet to see any action down here.

Nice flies!  Chartreuse over White Clousers are a classic!  I've caught lots of different species on those.  The foam Damsel ought to be a killer as well.  I really like the Crawfish.
