Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This is a sheepshead or freshwater drum. I have been targeting them lately and, they are fun! Last night I decided to try and get one of these leviathans on the ultralight. Bang! Mission accomplished!

Great pursuit and success !

Watch you video this morning I know you were having a blast especially on the ultra light. Great job Patrick.

sure like to get one of those on the fly rod.

Ultra hog on the ultra light. Man, that must have been some battle.

I'm assuming you catch them on the bottom. I've heard of them, never seen one.

What rig/method?
Bait?
What was the lines test vs. fish weight?

I love the "H=ll yeah!!" facial expression! Stoked!

David, The rig used was a custom made Lindy Rig. A flourocarbon leader (6lb) with 3 beads and a spinner blade tied above the hook. The bait was a large leech and the mainline was 4lb mono. The fish was estimated at 15lbs!

That is awesome, Patrick!
Thanks!

David they inhabit the whole water column more in the middle to the bottom though.

What do they do?
What is their usual food?

awesome fish and size. i have not caught one of these since i was a kid (lake erie). i heard they were excellent eating and eat mainly crawfish.
