That thing is crazy big!

My best redear isn't as big as that, but I did catch it while soaking a nightcrawler in about 20 feet of water, hoping for a catfish to come along while I was bluegill fishing. After about an hour, the bell on the rod started ringing and I ran over and grabbed it. I was quite surprised to find a big redear with  size four hook all the way down its throat!

Maybe targeting catfish is the way to catch huge bluegill :) I'm gonna have try some chicken livers some time and see if the 'gills go for that.

Congrats on an amazing fish!

That is a nice gill.I have a friend who won't use anything else but tiny little pieces of beef liver on cricket hooks for gills and he pulls em out.
