He banked three others and is spearheading a carp seminar this Saturday at a local outdoor show. Great fish...had this been a 'sow-belly', it would have approached 30 pounds. The mouth of this fish is big enough to eat a golf ball!

Comment by Jim Gronaw on February 12, 2012 at 8:42pm: Went out this past Friday and had one run on carp and managed to land this long, gaunt, skinny fish that was obviously ill. Although it had the length to go twenty plus, it had a serious infection on the left side of it's mouth that appeared to be infected, and likely caused the fish to have a difficult time with feeding. The fish had a few sores on it and was extremely light for it's length.

We surmised that it had an injury from a previous hookup and did not heal well. We released the fish with hopes that it may recover.

Comment by David, aka, "McScruff" on February 2, 2012 at 4:07am: Burbot = freshwater cod. Voracious predator, will often strike baits and lures close to it own size. Often seen as a menace to "game fish." When they were discovered in Utah, an instant no-release/kill on sight ruling was enacted.

Delicious on the table, they are prized in Scandinavia for their roe. They are often referred to as, "poor mans lobster."
