John, run a long screw through the cork, the screw being the same diameter as the straw.
Put a washer on each end and a nut. Tighten down in the nut to hold the cork firmly.
Chuck the tag end of the screw in High speed drill or drill press, and let her rip! Use coarse sand paper (50-60 grit) with a hard backing block to shape, finer sand paper (150-220h to provide a smooth surface to accept a finish.
I use urethane glues, aka "Gorilla Glue" to glue the straw in. Cyano-rilate adhesives, (super glue) also work well. >>

Nice work Papa Turner! I may try this but sand the cork to a pear shape .

I recently made a slip bobber with a wine cork and coffee stirrer. I drilled a 1/8" hole in the cork, but had to increase it to 5/16". Forced the stirrer thru the cork. Be careful because the stirrrer has a tendency to bend.

I have a hard time tying the slip knot with my bad eyes, so I came up with my own slip knot "invention". I just took a wire tie that came with a box of plastic bags, twisted it 3/4 times around my line and instant slip knot. I used the ties with the paper backing seem to work better than the plastic, but you may have to change them more often. Still faster and easier then tying to tie those dang knots.

Here's a funny story about worm belt bait containers. (At least I think it's funny.) Many years ago my son who was 5 at the time, he's now 41 and I entered a youth fishing contest he won first prizes and had a choice of spinning outfits to choose from. There were also several smaller prizes including a yellow plastic belt container. Well guess which one he picked? Yeah even the judges tried to talk him into one of the fishing outfits, but he said he already had a fishing pole and needed the worm can.

I have plans for several homemade forges, just never built one yet. The 50$ Knife Shop by Wayne Goddard has several examples. This a good book for anybody interested in making their own knives.

Check out page 16 for a handy Trout "pocket net" .Found this pretty interesting and I like the idea of paring down when I'm stream, shore fishing or hiking out to remote ponds. net :http://fishandboat.com/anglerboater/75archives/1960s/1962arch/02feb...

Great idea, Toot!

Comment by Leo Nguyen on January 9, 2014 at 9:23pm

That's pretty neat Tooty. Keep things organized. Wouldn't it be more efficient if you have a large square tub on the bottom to house the yarn, and various square tubs on top of it for storing your chenille and various other materials?
