Well if there is one dude to find a way to keep an old, classless rod going, its me. Nice to know I'm not alone in that. :-)

Got to bring a bit of class back to a loss of class rod ;-) It's like bling-bling the old stuff.

Yeah Leo, that works too.
Heck you can make a letterer from heavy mono, and some electrical tape.
This is an expedient, or something to be used on an older rod. It has no pizazz and no class. But, it will probably outlast any rod and it is almost no fuss. 30 seconds and, BAM!... you're golden.

You know, it's can be done using paperclip, a bit of nylon thread from Walmart ($0.99), and a bit of apoxy to seal the thread. I've done this on a few old rods.

Hook Keeper

A very serviceable hook keeper can be added to any rod that lacks one with just a wiring zip tie and a small ring.
I use a small, 1/4" split ring, but any solid metal seeing will work. Cinch the ring tightly onto the rod blank about an inch beyond the handle and clip it off as close as possible using side cutting pliers.
That's it.

When you clip off the zip ties' tag end, it often leaves a pointy little stub. Thus can be a bother, and can even give a small cut.
So, I dress the nub in the flame from a candle or cigarette lighter.

Just touch the flame to the cut nub, being careful to touch nothing else with the flame.
The plastic nub will start to melt and draw back, rounding off the sharp point. Remove the flame at that moment and don't touch the tie for about 10 seconds, so the plastic can cool.

Experienced Mastermind? You got THAT right! LOL

I have tried floating a bait beneath a dried twig, as a sort of "natural presentation." Whther it made a difference, I couldn't tell you. But if you don't have any other float, it will work in a pinch.

Now, I would have never considered feeding mushrooms to the fish. Actually, I don't go looking for them in the first place. Given my California upbringing in the 60's and 70's, other thoughts might have crossed my mind were I to see them.... but never feeding to fish.

You guys are awesome!
