Waiting for some warm weather so I can mount them in the boat.

Purchased 2 new Humminbird finders. Helix 7 G2N and a Helix 12 G2N.  Waiting on a new trolling motor. I want the new Ultrex 80 24volt but can't see the money they want for it now.  Will keep checking on prices hopefully I can get one by spring. If anyone should happen to see any deals keep me in mind. Got my new trolling motor last week. Not all I need is warmer weather so I can get these things installed in the boat. Oh, and watching a lot of youtube to better familiarize myself with the 2 finders at least.

I saw this with metal detectors.
A generic board had all the features, but they left off a jumper on lower priced units - a jumper which might enable advanced features not touted on the low end models.
Eventually a subculture of users would figure out the "tricks" and share the modifications needed to up-feature each unit.
This is the same. As you pay more, they tell you more... And charge you accordingly. My little Humminbird can monitor water temp, but you must buy an add-on thermocouple. It's mentioned in the instructions, but only in passing.
Meanwhile, there sits the rear panel jack, unused.

And I thank all BBG's family members for that. Now, to find a way to soak my lines through the monitors from all the posting..hm..

A simple " don't worry about that middle port " ,in the manual would have been nice .LOL Thanks again Leo!

Comment by Leo Nguyen on January 5, 2015 at 2:07pm

Why? Because most product designed to be stationary is not too popular in the upgrades-purchases department. So, why bother trying to explain much to the populus. It's a conspiracy theory thing :-D

But in seriousness, these kind of thing only confuses people more, and create more workload for customer services. Detail for that simply being left out. By the way, your model may have the port, but not necessary a functional port. It's just there to accommodate the more high end unit's design as part of the Flasher's series.

Thanks Leo , still a puzzle why it wasn't mentioned in the manual( perhaps I missed it )  but you are the man !

John, the 3rd slot is for optional device chaining. Imagine this if you will:

You got your flasher. Your flasher can connect to an optional weather monitoring group. It can also connect to your PC/Laptop. I can also connect itself in a daisy chain to a hub, then to various other devices such as GPS receiver, other fishfinders, or even map compilers..In other words, the 3rd port is your data port.
