Good Fishing In Alabama In Mild Weather 12/2012 2 Replies

I had the tremendous opportunity to do a little fishing while visiting my mother in Alabama. The weather was great, snakes were in hideout mode, the banks were pretty safe. My cousin took me to this…Continue

News to me

On my latest fishing trip I was introduced to small crawfish as bait. Ones like an inch and half at most, To my surprise big bluegills were all over them. I recommend  them to anyone who is able to get some as a superb bait.

3/26, fished a little from the bank but the snow melt is keeping the shallows to cool for a congregation of the usual March panfish in Cupsaw lake ,here in NJ.

3/10 I fished from the bank . A Southerly wind that was blowing all day  to a NW finger in a pond triggered  some Pickerel and Bass feeding in the shallows around reedy ambush areas .Managed a small Bass and a few Pickerel follow ups that didn't take . Only saw small fish throwing an 1/8th oz. spinner bait. I had very little gear and when I go back I'll bring some floats and smaller jigs .

I enjoy the bank, too. As much as boats, in fact. Now, lets face it, boats are the 'plus ultra' when it comes to fishing. Whether a leaky old pirogue or deluxe classic, they take fishing to another dimension. And then there is this little passage, one of my faves:

"This has been a wonderful day!' said he, as the Rat shoved off and took to the sculls again. `Do you know, I`ve never been in a boat before in all my life.'

`What?' cried the Rat, open-mouthed: `Never been in a--you never--well I--what have you been doing, then?'

`Is it so nice as all that?' asked the Mole shyly, though he was quite prepared to believe it as he leant back in his seat and surveyed the cushions, the oars, the rowlocks, and all the fascinating fittings, and felt the boat sway lightly under him.

`Nice? It's the ONLY thing,' said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leant forward for his stroke. `Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING--absolute nothing--half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."

When it comes to bank fishing, I tend to be a mover, though. I'm not often content to sit on just one spot - unless the fish are there, too. I'll usually hike about to three or four places before a fishing day is over.

So my challenge is find ever-better ways to bring along the gear I need (or want). There are only two hands, after all!

But I'd have to agree with Dwayne - two 'masters' might actually be understating the matter.

Both of you Guys are bank fishing masters!

Appreciate that Jim but you are the Bank Bustin'expert on big fish of many species.I'm just a constant learner.

I think John is one of our better 'bank busters' on this site. I actually prefer to fish from the shore, and do it on 90% of my trips for panfish and bass.
