Do you love big bluegill?
I had the tremendous opportunity to do a little fishing while visiting my mother in Alabama. The weather was great, snakes were in hideout mode, the banks were pretty safe. My cousin took me to this…Continue

I have a boat, but some watershed lakes around here do not allow them, and some small ponds around here are easier to fish from shore. I love how relaxing it is fishing from shore. Sometimes I go with no more than my B&M pole, minimal tackle, and a tube of crickets. Ahhhh a perfect day!
Ah..no wonder. Clay bottom + recent rain + recent wind = one murky water. With water like that, aerial predator will have one hard time hunting for prey below. No wonder that pond is thriving so successful.
Oh by the way we did get heavy rains a couple days before.
Leo, all clay bottom, thats all we have around here. Weeds are getting out of control on shallow side. On the right side of screen he is going to dig deeper. The deep side was clearer, winds out of SW was blowing all the scum to NE corner of pond. I caught a 38lb albino catfish out of this pond a couple years ago. This is the pond the gills love hot dogs at.
Possibly due to intro of rain water in the pond? Or simply just high on clay/silt at the bottom. What gets me is the turbidity level, even when there is so much vegetation to naturally scrub the suspended solids out. But, if the pond doesn't get maintain over time, it doesn't matter how much plants there are, it will remain murky because of the remnant clay/silt sitting the bottom. This pond could be one of the best ponds to produce monstrous fish.
Leo the pond in about an acre. This is swallow end goes from inch to 24ft deep on other side. Alot of the waters around here are real murky this year from some reason. Almost every lakes under water stucture is cover in this lime green snot like slime. It is crazy this year.
Dwayne, how large is this area? Massive vegetation, but murky water. A tad odd.
Thanks, John. Im persistent if nothing else.
David your fishing spot builds character!Hang in there !
