I'm going through a minor rough spot myself.
My thoughts are with you and you're wife.
Take care and hang tough.
Were always here if you wanna "man cave" to hang out in.

Thanks David.....I don't get here much. The wife has had a lot of health issues. Hope to get thru most of it in the next few months so I can get back to my old routines.

I am a little late to the game here. I personally prefer to fish a Marabou Muddler. These were sold at Orvis many years ago. The heads can be spun either quite thin to allow a better sink or thick to facilitate floating. A muddler can be used as a streamer fished on the bottom or a hopper fished on the surface. It can be dead drifted on the bottom to imitate some insect larva or it can be stripped as a sculpin. It is quite versatile and will be eaten by many different kinds of fish and tied in sizes from small to large for Bass and Saltwater. Deer hair to use can be belly hair which is easily dyed to any color or other body hair that is long enough to handle. Buck tail does not work well since it is not hollow though most bucktails are cut right at the base and the hair at the base is hollow and will spin and float. The hair at the end of the tail is not hollow and is used for streamer wings mostly and does not float well since it is not hollow. Deer hair bugs should have the hair trimmed close to the hook shank on the hook side of the shank to facilite hooking the fish. I personally don't tie any hair bugs any smaller than a size 8 and I have not been happy with them. Size 6 works fine is my normal small size bass bug size. If I go to 8 or smaller I normally use foam or cork but balsa would work well too. One last comment on weighting a Muddler. I use lead wraps on the hook shank. If you want a yo-yo effect then use the cones at the head. That is not what I want out of my muddlers. If I want a yoyo I use small lead eyes at the hook eye with a sparse deer hair collar. That way I can tie it so the hook rides up for less snagging and it is a little more weed proof.  Have fun with a great pattern.

Sorry Jim and thanks we just aren't  hooking up very well. Ordered a bunch of tail feathers today. I was looking at all the feathers they have to offer and came across some guinea feathers and fell in love with the pattern on them so I got a few to try.

Thanks you Jim. I bought 4 little patches of deer hair just to try it out. Bought 4 different colors all small patches I don't think its belly cause the cause you can see the darks on the ends..
