When I was a teenager I read a magazine article, the auther wrote about sink'n hay bales to attract fish, said it was a long term trick, as the bale fell apart over time the fish would be look'n for bugs that were in the grass as it was baled.

Never did get around to try'n it myself but it sounds like it could work, but have no idea if a bale of hay will sink or float.

Oh yeah...The dog food trick sounds interest'n, mite have to try that one out.

Another chumming or "baiting" trick I recently heard about is the minnow bottle. This is a large, CLEAR plastic soda bottle poked full of holes. A cord is run through a hole in the cap and tied off inside, so the botle will "hang" in the water. If your chosen bottle has a base cap, you can immerse the bottom in very hot water to loosen the  glue holding it on, and then remove it. Most plastic soda bottles no longer use these caps, so try to find one of those.

To use the bottle, put 10-12 lively minnows inside, seal the cap and immerse the bottle in the water you are fishing in. Let your little "aquarium" hang below your boat or suspend it from a another bottle, used as a float - But, dont poke holes in the second one!

The idea is the trapped minnows attract other fish to them, which cannot get AT them. But the distressed baitfish keep up a commotion that holds predatory fishes nearby... where you arrange to keep your baited hook!

What a great trick!!!!!

Buy three dozen and  keep a half dozen in that bottle .Check and switch minnows every once in a while in case they 're dieng

I've heard of that using a bale of hay trick... Crappie fishermen use to do that in Lake Texoma... worked great. The fish-in-a-bottle thing works too.
I have been using, a very simple method. I mix some powdered coffee cremer with bread bread crumbs and glaric powder. seems to work pretty good.
