This is the record for spotted sunfish in North Carolina but I’ve only seen the tiny blue spotted sunfish in the oldest natural lake in this state…..
sweet ! congrats and caught him on a beetle spin !
Here's a sink full of mostly 5 to 6 inch red spotted sunfish from a trip down in Louisiana...........I have cleaned thousands of these tasty little sunfish over the years,,,,,,,,,,,,,I owe that to my grandfather who told me if I cleaned a few back in the day I would always crave some...........he was right..............
Right on Jonathan.........some of my all time favorite fish fries are stumpknockers...........very few people have the patience to clean a couple hundred at a time for a bayou feast............
Very cool post!
A VERY BIG AND HEARTY;; CONGRATS TO THIS YOUNG MAN !
Two different species for my money Jonathan..........in Louisiana a "stumpknocker" is slang for a Spotted Sunfish and there are thousands of them in the bayous..........a shellcracker gets the largest of all sunfish and goes by RedEar......Lake Runner.......Chinquapin............just to name a few..............my two cents but I do agree that regional cultures establish many sunfish names that stick......
