Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

would like to know where i can buy the 210 eagle claw hooks in the sizes that Bill Modica uses ,when he changes from the treble to the single hook. Lure parts on line and Janns netcraft dont seem to have them in their catalogs,in those sizes. these are #6 and #8 hooks.

That's why I would rather be on the bank, more room to run :)

brace the mouth open with your UL.... wait....

siwash is a style not a brand.just type in whatever size siwash.mustad gamu and others make them.they have a larger eye and gap.some sproats have a turned down eye that wont sit right on a spoon and they are more of a j shape and a standard gap.large enough eye for split ring and a wide gap and a bend that looks more like a u than a j.there are hundreds of styles of hooks that are not necessarily the same from brand to brand.when i buy fly hooks i like i will usually buy 100 or more just to have them.

Yep... the turned down eye is the one caveat - you do not want that.
Siwash IS a type - we mentioned that earlier in this.
But many people only want a certain thing, a brand, etc.

I'm like you, I get a bunch!

I could not find the 210s in gill sizes. I was able to find large eye sprout hooks in both 6 and 8. Entirely satisfactory results.

The smallest I've seen is 8.
Now, that works, size wise.
And the Siwash is a salmon hook; plenty strong, with a wide gape.

But I just don't feel bad substituting another plenty strong hook for it. With the small mouth on a bluegill, I also don't mind a more compact design, like the Sproat.
I'm not really "tackle picky," anyway. All kinda things work - you just gotta try em.
And I've tried both, with the same results you so aptly describe.

i struck out looking for those hooks you wanted-- checked in  3  catalogs-- sorry

sooooo do we have a solution after 2071 views

Yes
210 Siwash are available here and there.
Keep up a search until you find them.

Other brands make Siwash hooks.
Get those and stop looking.

Other hooks work as well as Siwash, the straight open eye being the primary requisite.
Get something else and use those.

Three options, in fact!

Problem is you guys need a Global Sourcing Manager to figure this out. Never mind my usual bill rate

Gamakatsu open eyed Siwash hooks size 8 and 6 available at Cabela's at $4.49 per 10 . Think this might qualify for free shipping
