Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

The last two years I've been a bit high tech with the equipment and methods.

I think this year I want to go back to basics and have purchased a BnM 10 foot cane pole. The whole thing ran me a full $3.99. I figure with 2 lb test I should be able to dap flies, micro fish as well as bait fish.

I'm really looking forward to the spring.

I'm with you. I often fish a local creek and carry only line, float and sinkers. I'll cut a cane pole and scrounge for bait and just fish. Small bluegill, sunfish, bullheads and warmouth are what catch.

Keep us posted!

You never truly know what's going to hit your bait.  Couple years ago, I watched a gent use one of those collapsible Crappie Poles, dapping minnows just off the bank in the river.  There's a hole right there that's probably 6' deep when the turbines are off, and add another 5 - 6' when both generators are running.  This particular time the water was up and moving.  He was catching decent numbers of small Crappie and Green Sunnies.  Then he set the hook, and the pole doubled over.  He brought out a 5 lbs Channel Cat!  About an hour later, he got ahold of "something" that ended up breaking his line.  Probably a bigger cat.

Man, before I knew about tenkara or fancy stufff, I had a bamboo pole.

You can do it!

Thanks guys, We'll see how it goes. Figure I will fish that style  for April / May / June.

I'm going to limit myself to split shot, 2 # test ,a small float , and a #6 hook. I'll add a medium snap connector and use a few #12 flies . Should get all in an Altoids tin.

sounds like a great plan!

Try a small cork stopper for a float. Just drill a hole and use a toothpick to hold in place. Wine corks work well .

Broomstick + some line + some worms + a few hooks = dinners..works fine in the past for me..still work for my kids.

yep!!!!  ive cut many a willow branch ; and found bait where ever I could!!  those worms in ( horse weeds) works real good!!
