Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Ice fishing intrigues me because it ends my fishing here!!!! Michael has already been out on the ice, so how do you determine the thickness!!!! Who is the first one to go out and check, the smallest of the group??? What precaution do you take as you venture out on the ice?????

On one hand I'm sorry that you won't get to try it, but on the other I'm glad you won't be taking any unnecessary risks!

Thanks for all the info on this subject, with that I have come to some conclusions, putting it all together with Bill's picture!!!!!

Do not ICE FISH alone (drive in caravans out on the lake)!!!! The guy riding shotgun gets out and checks the depth of the ice every so often with a SPUD!!!!!! When exiting the lake do not drive over ice with 1" of snow!!!

2lbgill told ME to stay off of the ice ( HEARD IT)!!!!!!!!

To all ICE FISHERS, take HEED and becareful out there!!!! We want to see YALL back on here with pictures!!!!!!!!

Thank you 2lb, Finally a way I can go ice fishing!!!!!! Where pray tell can I get one of these???? I'm in!!!!

At least 4 inch of clear ice for me! I always walk on people or snowmoble's path on lake if snow is out there. I knew its safe. I fell in about 25 years ago thats only few feet away from 6 inch thick! watch out of spring! It gave me bad nightmare for a long time and I dont go ice fishing for about 5 years then I start slowly back to ice fishing! Its not funny and no fun when you fell in! NO safe ice out there.....never know! I always careful on ice no matter how thick the ice is.... 4 inch or 12 inch! I always wear long rope tied on my fishtrap when I go out alone! Lifejacket and  for early ice fishing! Some of my biggiest bluegill and yellow perch came from ice fishing!  Be careful and have fun ice fishing!
