Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I know we all love bluegill, they are fun to catch, and fun to eat. When we clean them we have to decide whether we are going to fillet or clean them whole to prepair them for the grease. I for one fillet almost everything I catch because my wife and kids dont   like bones , I like them this  way but I also like eating the whole fish,by whole fish I mean I remove the dorsal fin, the tail , and the lateral fins. I am surprised by the people that object to me removing the tail and fins, they say the eat them like potato chips, to me there is no meat on the tail and fins and they just take up skillet space. So I wonder what the % of Fineaters are there out there, Fin Eaters, stand up and be counted.

We did as kids, didn't know any better, now all fish are fileted.
I do not eat the tails or fins, however I have a brother-in law who does....... but I dont have to claim him because we are not related by blood right?
Curtis , we are just looking for a % of Fin Eaters ,so we will count him but you dont  have to claim him. I understand, Curtis, do you know what the difference between In-laws and Outlaws is ?  Answer: Outlaws are Wanted.

This is true.  Hes a  good guy but it freaked me out when he ate the tail.

Fillet all now because of the wife but rather the whole fish and like the crispy fins/tail.

Although I am not a Tail or Fin Connoisseur (yes I had to look up how to spell it) I have seen a lot of folks who do and even have Kin folk that are notorious Fin and Tail nippers. If it is not big enough to fillet with my Magic Electric Fillet Knife, I will place them on hold until a later date, when I can again retrive them from my vast lake and river empoundments and then fillet them for the unfortunate friends I have who can't catch a fish..I am not much of a sportsman because they release every thing they catch. i am a selective fish muncher..We of this breed enjoy the bounty of the harvest, and fry or broil our fishy friends so that their populations will not overcrowd their enviorment..I am the CPO of an organization called the Fish Reduction Program or FRP for short . With all of this said, I really have no appetite for tail nipping and fin munching but don't hold that against anyone who does..LMAO
Vic, the FPR almost sounds like a goverment agency, where I'm from we are population control specialist  and  We Eat Bluegill- We Eat BigBluegill. I know I've had closet FinEaters in the boat with me ,but I've never heard them say"  Man that looks like some good Fin, cant wait to fry that up,yum that going to be some tasty bones" I think FinEating started at the kiddies table without adult supervision , so dont get me wrong , I'm all about supporting those Fin Eaters, and stand up for their rights to eat fins, even tho I prefer a little meat on my bones. So far in my research , I'm going to go out on a limb and say there  is a Fin Eater population  of about 14% ,and it could go higher if some more come out of the closet.   LOFR
I think there may be a failure to communicate. Being a fin eater, doesn't mean I eat fins exclusively. I do not eat fins for sustenance, I do so because it's an added bonus AFTER eating the meat off the bones. You should do another survey, frying them whole of fillet? I think you guys that fillet them are missing out!
Matt, Like I said i fillet because I my family doesn't like to eat bones, I like them whole but I cut the tail and fins off, but if you were at one of my fish frys  I would make sure I didn't defin and detail all of the fish , making everbody happy is what a big fish fry is all about, and hushpuppies.     LOFR

The only fins I want to see or feel are the ones they fight with... once they are in the cooler... NO FINS...   Beer Batter made with Newcastle Brown Ale ... Hush Puppies... and Chips (French Fries for you American Blokes) with Malt Vinegar... The only thing better than that ... A Kiss From Your Mum or Dad... or a day fishing with your children...

You Go Rob, Thats what  I'm talking about , Why eat fins , I want to go eat with Rob, I would still have to bring my cajun spice.
Only time I eat fins is when I fry tiny bream for an elderly lady who loves to eat the whole fish. She does not like hand size plus. Wants tiny crispy critters.
