Get yourself a goat. They don't get in the water, or punch holes in the slope. They do eat all the vegetation.
bush hog
The highway dept here uses weed eaters.  Garden store should have the gas ones.  Works great on slopes...  Goats do work.  LOL
yeah the weedeaters does work and are pretty fast but it throws most of the grass into the water then we have to come behind that and scoop out as much as we can with nets. There just has to be a better way. Do you think it would be a good idea to weed eat the grass and what ever goes into the water to leave it for grass carp? Or even if grass carp are there, should we continue to scoop out all the grass we can?
OK...I gotta ask, is grass in the water a bad thing ???
YES, any decaying matter is bad. As it rots or decays it gives off toxic gases depleting the oxygen. And over time as the dead matter increases, it makes it necessary for you to aerate your pond. And as they decay it also give off nutrients that stimulate weed and algae growth. Dealing with the sunlight , which you cant control, you dont want to make matters worse with something that you can control.
You need a Flymo...it's a hover craft mower...a lot of golf courses use them.  there are a couple of youtube videos of them....pretty cool actually
