Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I've got a problem.... It's winter here, and there's ice on most of the lakes. I've tied up a bunch of flies, but they are just sitting there, mocking me, staring at me with those bead chain eyes, knowing I can't do much with them for 4 months. So, I do think I'll send some of these flies to the first three people who respond and live in an area where they can fly fish year round. I'd like to see who can catch a fish on one of my flies first. All free, I pay shipping too. I can't test my flies out, so what the heck, might as well let someone else test em!

Alex

P.S. guys who can't fly fish year round, don't feel left out, I'm thinking that I'll send out some more come march or so.

Hey Alex, even down here in Charlotte we fish year round. Granted, some days are better than others, but we don't get iced out. Let's do a fly swap.
I'm holding off a bit (wx's a bit cold in the mornings), but expect to be back out there within a week or so. I'd be happy to try out whatever you want to send.
What a nice offer!
Unfortunately, its iced up here too, Alex. But I tie up some flies that can be used for ice-fishing too. Generally you need some weight to get the fly to sink and tighten your line adequately...either wire, beadhead, or 1/80 (or smaller) jighead. Or...you can tie tiny nymphs to use as droppers below other ice-jigs.
POOR ALEX!!!!
Down here in the delta we never ever ever see ice. Once in a blue moon there may be a time when there is a little bit of sheet ice on some back water stag pools but other than that water temp rarely reaches under 40. Makes for some beautiful low fog mornings to start with.

I can fly fish year round here in Florida and I'd be honored to test your flies!
Try to find hotwater discharge channel or lake that you able to fish all year around! I fished a small warmwater channel into Salt Creek below Busse Lake near Chicago. Million bluegills but mostly is small.....better than nothing!
Try ice fishing! Need simple equipment....good hand auger, 5 gallons bucket for seat, some waxworms and few extra clothes then you ready to go! Better than wait for 4 months!

I got a nice book from Amazon.com you should get it and fun to read in winter!

BLUEGILL.....Fly Fishing & Flies by Terry & Roxanne Wilson

Great book to read...I am not fly fisherman but fun to read and it gave me some idea about some flies with a tiny float for my 7 ft 6" ultra light rod!
Did you realize that Terry Wilson is a member of Big Bluegill!!!!!!!! We are so lucky to have such good members!
WHO IS TERRY WILSON?
He is a well known author on bluegill and bluegill fly fishing. He's also an expert fly tier (or is it fly tyer) ? :-)
WE KNOW ITS NOT TIRE! haha

Thanks for the info. I will have to check this guy out, see if I can maybe teach him a thing or to! lol.
I also have that book. Was a very interesting 2-day read, and I'm looking forward to doing it again in another month or two.
Terry Wilson is a member in Big Bluegill Club.....I don't know that and that's very cool!
