Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Went to check one of my favorite lakes this evening as we had some flooding a couple of weeks ago.  Lake level was up three ft but that didn't keep me from finding some of my marked bedding spots.  Paddled back to a nice shallow flat where the water was about 5ft,  The water had cleared up a lot so I was able to see the nice stretch of craters well before I was on them.  Distanced my kayak several feet away and rolled out a cast with a popper dropper rig.  Slurp!!! Mr. Bluegill was home.  Brought him to hand and measured him, nine inches!  Though this could get interesting, so I began to work the outer edges and it was game on.  Cast after cast fat thick gills, a few pushing 10 inches, were slurping the popper and dropper down.  Managed to bring 22 to hand and lost about six.  This was one of the best outings so for this year and of course I left something I usually always have in my vest,,,,my camera,  But I would have found it hard to stop and take pictures anyway with them biting that fast and furious.  Maybe I can talk one of the kid into doing the photography next time so I can just fish.  My own personal photographer!  Yeah that would be a great fathers day gift.

You got a fun time out there Rex. 22, and lost 6, that's not a bad ratio. I lost more than that just after 3 seconds of hookset. They tend to know how to unhook themselves from debarbed circle hooks and J-hooks.
