Rabbit hair jigs

I bought a couple rabbit  hair jigs that I want to try out next spring. They have a movement all there own sort of pulse in the water. Has anybody used them before and was it a good experience or not.

The Bluegill Diaries.....Loch, Stock, and big as a barrel........ Someday!

This blog will be an attempt on my part to document my family's attempt to grow consistent numbers of big Bluegill, which in this case will mean fish that weigh one pound or over. The key words here being "consistent numbers". Think of the times you have seen a photo of a smiling angler holding up a single, colossal Bluegill. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, after all it was his or her skill as an angler that lead to that memorable catch, and they should be justifiably proud of the…

Electric reel

I was thinking maybe if I got my wife an electric reel I can get her fishing again and that would be to my benefit maybe I can fish more than once or twice a year cause she'll be with me. The one's I seen through the internet look big and heavy. I need small and light. I know she loves to fish maybe this will be the ticket so she can enjoy it once again. I know I will have to order it because I've never seen them in any sporting goods store and I know there not cheep so I really need to shop…

Private Pond Bulls

Last month a buddy and I hit a private residential pond that we hit back in September. Whole nightcrawlers with no weight on the bottom was the ticket.

Both of us together ended up with close to 20 bluegills, 4 pumpkinseeds, 5 yellow perch, and 3 largemouths.

Most of the gills were bulls. Perfect 8" to 10" chubby ones which I got good panfrying fillets from. They were fighters.…

Fish food

This question is for Bruce Condello.  Some of my friends told me that they have been feeding panfish small nugget size or pellet size catfood in one of the public ponds.  Is this a safe idea or can it damage the fish?  Nick

Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva is 7 miles long, and 2 miles wide......during the summer months, the lake is home to a vast amount of pleasure boaters, jet skiers, para sailors, and the like.....The shoreline of LG is dotted with extravagant 7 figure homes which become the talking point of several large cruise ships that offer tours of this amazing body of water......I've had the pleasure of fishing LG hundreds of times over the last 30 yrs, and during that time I've had the opportunity to explore its intricate…

NEWBE

New to the site what I've seen I love. Match the tackle to the fish and bluegills fight great. Also think Pumpkinseed's are the prettiest fish that swim. Anyone know where to possibly find big seed's in eastern PA. The biggest one I've seen came from Lake Wallenpaupack.

Late Fall Lake Geneva report

Fished Lake Geneva with Rod Lee today 10am-4:30pm....scoured vast expanses of deep weed edges in search of bluegills between 10am and 2pm.....virtual dead sea. Slid the boat over deep water for a look.....nada.

We headed back to our original starting point in 15 fow for another drift.....following my previous gps track, we drifted bobber sets at 10' down.....and dragged 1/16 oz spoons with the hopes of scraping up a few fish.....I had already chalked the day up as one of sorrow…

To the memory of Bluegill Boogieman

A year ago we lost a treasured member on this sight. His name was Joseph Parker known here as Bluegill Boogieman. Everyone please say a prayer for the friends and family he left behind. I for one have missed him greatly and all that he contributed to this sight.

A moment...

A moment of silence for our good buddy, bluegillboogieman. We miss you. It's been a year, but it really only seems like a week or two. You loved bluegill, and you loved BBG and all of it's members. Thanks for all you contributed.

Lake Perris optimal time of year

So if any of you good folks in California were to recommend the best month of the year to fish Lake Perris, what would it be?  Are there guides who take people out specifically for bluegill and redears?

Fall Equinox

Today is the Fall Equinox.  For all of us in North America, if you want to find where in your yard (or anywhere for that matter), the true east and west are, simply look at where the sun rises for true east, and where it sets, for true west.  Pretty cool.  As far as the Bluegill fishing goes, It should be pretty good until the weather changes and the water starts to cool down.

Favorite bait for Smallmouth Bass

What is your three most productive and favorite bait for fishing for Smallmouth??? Mine are top water poppers first because I love seeing the explosion on top. My second is a small jighead with a red hook and a tail off a rubber worm. Its seems to work good for the Bass in deeper water that are not biting anything else. My third favorite is a Roostertail spinner of course. In white or green. Its a fun bait to use and covers water pretty fast. Im interested in hearing what your favorite bait are… Continue
