I like the fly rod because I can keep it simple. I wear a lanyard with all the necessities I need for bank fishing (forceps, line clipper, small box of flies, floatant, hook sharpening stone, and a couple spools of tippet), the fly rod/reel, and that's about all I need for a short trip.
Caught that one on a #12 "briminator", but a #14 black ant was the fly the next evening. I keep 3-4 of the best producing patterns in the small box on the lanyard, so I can usually find one that works on any given day.

Sweet pic Mike! Tooty loves these shots with the fly rod! So do I . Gonna have to take a fly rod down to the oxbow i fished worms at yesterday and catch them on the long rod .
