Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Unbelievable amount of fish in this area. HUGE cat fish, carps, and plenty of panfish stacking up in the water. Fish was not actively feeding throughout the lake due to poor weather..raining..The lake's water went up by 4ft, giving me rare access to this location..very rare..Jeff Soto, this will be a gold mine!

Jack, just a warning, there were 3 huge arches from my fish finder in that location. I'm not sure if they belong to carps and/or cats. Just be warned that if you tip your hooks with nightcrawler, red wigglies, or some enticing bait, your rod(s) may be in for a fun fight, that is, if no one had already capture those monsters. If you are using your own boat to get there, just be careful of sudden outcrops of jagged branches. I was greeted by a few of those as I push my way through the heavy vegetation with my inflatable pontoon..not a good approach, but it's worth the adventure.

I'll be on the lake Saturday.  I'm really hoping this week's heat has triggered some fish hormones, and I'll be greeted by redears and/or bluegills willing to overlook less than perfect bait presentation in the name of satisfying a newly awakened hunger for spawning fuel.

I promise to deliver a report and photo evidence to BBG.

Hi Jack. Welcome to the site.

It's not poaching, rather, a golden egg that's being cracked wide open. Plenty of people have already access this point in the past. It's just reconnected again with the main lake, like you said. It's anything goes. Don't worry about it. Enjoy!

Yes, I have fished this spot many times in the past. When it rained hard enough, and as the water risen, I tried to access it to hunt for large games, as well as trapped panfish that had enough time to really grow. I metered and surveyed it on 4/14. It rained a bit, but mainly overcast all day, the fish was stacking up, and would not bite. I tossed live baits, cranks, and ice jigs. Nothing. However, with the recent hot days, Anthony indicated the activities have been off the hook. So, hit it hard my friend, and report back. We would love your input and provision of info about the lake. I'm primarily interested in collecting data, and of course, when opportunity arises, I hit the water.

Leo, I'm a newbee who just joined BBG.  I've been scoping out this site while getting ready to hit Perris this weekend.  On Google Earth, it was showing a completely separated pond in the recent past.  But now it looks like it may have re-connected with the main lake as the water has come up.

I'm feeling bad, because I was planning to try fishing this spot, but I feel like I'm poaching, now that I saw your post.  Don't want you thinking some stranger came on here just to steal the members good ideas.

Have you actually fished it yet? You must have been on the water to get readings on the fish finder.

All shallow along the edges, between 3 to 7ft. The very very far side straight ahead, the entire 1 acre is 12ft deep. Hard to get in due to the tall tules, but man, the panfish made beds like crazy over there. Center of the lagoon, the depths range between 21 to 25ft, All soft sandy bottom. 2 large rocks outcropping to the right side of the photo. Fishfinder pinged one very very large cat.

Nice looking body of water. What kind of depths are we talking here.

Hehehehehe..fishy indeed. By the way, the location that I'm taking the shot has a shallow depth of 4ft. Just 10ft in from this entrance the depth dropped 25ft. Immediately, my fishfinder lit up..I mean lit up. There a few HUGE arches on the left side of the lagoon, and one GIGANTIC one on the far right, near the rock structure. I would say that was a cat. The optical stitching plays a trick on the mind. This hidden lagoon is close to 5 acres, based on my GPS plotting and calculation software. Incredible opportunities!

Cool shot Leo! I like the way the vegetation impedes the water in this shot......Looks fishy!
