Two snakes so far this year in my pond.  Lot if BG coming up to eat, a few cats, and one of my carp.  Caught one bass so far, about two pounder.  Have seen lots of small BG about one to two inch size.  Lots of minnows as well.  Looking forward to installing aeriation this year.

I thought I was the only worrier. Glad to have the company.

Sharon I know the feeling, everytime the fish dont act the way I want them to I get worried. When they spawn and they are not eating, I get worried, when it gets really hot and they are not eatring I get worried, When the bass stopped biting I got worried. I have come to realize that there habits are not gonna be what I expect them to be, I gotta roll with the punches

Zach you are correct, at a quick glance they all look alike. The smaller they are the more they look alike. Fo a while when I pulled up my minnow traps I thought they all were BG untill I caught an adult GSF and realized that I even had GSF in there. I can tell them apart now but it wasnt until I pulled up both BG and GSF fingerlings together tha I was able to

No pic, but whatever kind of bg it was, it's welcome in my pond. The GSF fry I see have no stripes.

Did you get a pic of it by chance.  They are pretty hard to tell apart at that age, HBG and BG look alot alike when that small.

Heck a GSF may even look like that not sure I have ever caught a 1 inch fish before.

AT LAST! I pulled up my net and there with the GSF I caught was one little 1" bluegill. So the GSF went down the creek, and the very pretty BG went back in my pond. I don't know why they are not biting, but they're still there. I worry too much, I guess. Zack, they were 2" when I bought them, but this bluegill already had it's stripes, and it was smaller.

what size were you BG you stocked, that could determine if many of them were eaten or not?
Comment by 10.5" RES Sharon on March 24, 2011 at 6:56am
I put 200 bg, 25 bass in my pond 1 1/2 years ago. I remove all the catfish I catch. I have now devised a net to catch the hundreds of gsf, and will remove them. They are all sizes up to 6". If I ever caught a bigger one, I would eat it. I haven't seen a bass for years, don't know what size they are.

Sharon, did you buy some BG to stock in the pond?

If so how many and what size?

How many bass and GSF are in the pond and what sizes?
